Re: [talk-ph] Mayon Volcano Eruption Jan 2018

2018-01-15 Thread Ervin Malicdem
Schadow1 Expeditions has initiated producing a humanitarian version of GPS
navigation map for this area a few hours after its magmatic eruption in
January 14.
Let me know if the HOT activation needs a daily update for this one.
A poly file [0] was created to prioritize its southwest quadrant where the
magma initially flowed and also to include evacuation centers we mapped
back during its phreatic eruption in 2014. I suggest we can also make this
as the bounds for the HOT task.

Map is available on site [1]

[talk-ph] Mayon Volcano Eruption Jan 2018

2018-01-15 Thread maning sambale
Mayon Volcano in the Philippines erupted this week. Local community
is mapping from pre-event imagery.
This is not yet a full HOT Activation. We are still assessing the
needs of responders, but if anyone has spare time,
we have a task [0] ready for the permanent danger zone. This mapping
is focused on mapping infrastructure (roads and buildings) and
waterways.

Re: [talk-ph] Finding more missing roads - would you like one for your home province?

2018-01-15 Thread Erwin Olario
@maning
All I can say is that it's a result of GIS analysis of aerial imagery, the
feedback loop, and OSM data. And, we only suggest an area to look into,
where roads are highly likely to be missing.

@JP
Are you planning to run a survey? Do you Mapillary, or something else?
Which area are you interested in?

These days, we have several imagery options we can checkout for verifying
these missing highways. There's also street level imagery, and GPS traces.

I see some areas I can do over the weekends on my bike but some of them are
in gated neighborhoods. How do volunteers go about it?

I saw one in a private compound, too (factory grounds).

Re: [talk-ph] intro to Kaart initiative in PH

2018-01-15 Thread maning sambale
Hi Erwin,

Thanks for leading this work. As many of you know, I work in Mapbox
and my primary focus is to make OSM navigable.
I wonder what would be the best approach in the context of driving in
the Philippines.
Would love to share notes and approaches. One thing I have in mind (I
shared this during the meetup), while every country
has specific nuances tagging, there is a danger of making the tags too
specific as its difficult to create routing engines for each country.
