Re: Fwd: Bill Bessie Lee movie announced

2010-08-28 Thread mistertaterbug
The music will be managed by TBone, the script by his girlfriend,
Callie(writer of Thelma and Louise). If the movie is only about
Monroe and Bessie Lee Mauldin, then it is certainly not covering but a
small slice of Bill's life/career. I don't look for it to be for
anything other than entertainment purposes. I have heard that there's
a few fiddlers that have cut tracks so far, but no mandolineers. Sure,
I'm sure there's a veritable plethora of players hovering around. Same
as it was when Bill was a'living. Nobody's saying anything. Seems like
this may be the same project that Ronnie McCoury has been mentioning
for a few years now, only now TBone's involved. But then, I ain't got
a clue.

I wonder how he is gonna handle choosing a mandolin player for this?

I'd imagine that theres a pick of mando-folks would be itching and
bitching to tie their playing to the Monroe legacy, while others still
may see it as a bit too daunting a mantle to take?

Perhaps, the best, that is most politic, way would be to use archive
recording materials, but that don't seem the T-Bone way...

Strangely, i'd like it if they composed new incidental-athmosphere
musics in some of Monroe's voicings, i thinking more of the blues/
gospel flavour than the to be expected hard-kicking bluegrass numbers.

brought to the big screen in a feature starring real life couple Maggie
  Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard.

Sarsgaard is set to portray Monroe while Gyllenhaal will easily play the

Digital Spy overheard Gyllenhaal saying “Bill Monroe, who invented Blue
Grass music, had a kind of Sid and Nancy-style affair with this woman Bessie
  Lee Mauldin throughout his life.

“T-Bone Burnett’s going to do the music and Callie Khouri, who wrote ‘Thelma

I don't know what time period this movie will cover but I can't imagine anyone
but Gene Hackman in the role of Bill Monroe in his later days.

Much as I believe our Tater is the man for the job, I'd like to hear
that several mandoliners are involved... hear different takes on the
way to make a performance reflect the events and emotions of his
(love) life. I think it would be fascinating. But I guess so would an
interpretation by one person.
So who should play 'letter from my darling?'
