Cotton Fields

2009-08-07 Thread Steve Cantrell
I hate to come begging again, but I'm looking for the Monroe recording of this
tune. I've heard CCR and Leadbelly's version and never realized Monroe had
recorded it, I guess for Decca in the 60s. I've gone through all the online
resources and my even my flea market Monroe compilations and can't find the
tune for sell or listen. I'm eager to hear this one, being a fan of the CCR
version...well, pretty much anything they did. If anyone is willing to shoot me
a copy I won't tell.
Thanks,
Steve

I've got this one, I could try to dig it up. I believe it's on the 1960's box
set from bear family.

This song has a great mandolin break.

Definitely some really good stuff on there, I have all four of them from
1936 through the 70's. I won't comment on the price because I didn't pay for
them myself but there's pretty much enough stuff to keep you busy for a
lifetime. Probably 500 songs between the 4 of them.

Re: Cotton Fields

2009-08-07 Thread 14strings

The Bear Family stuff is great; of the four my favorite as a whole is
1950-1958.
Ever hear the Sally Jo on there? Rock and Monroe!

But Master of Bluegrass is on the eighties one and well the sixties
one has Keith, Greene and Rowan...and the first one has Bill and
Charlie and Flatt and Scruggs heck they're all good!
