my buddy Timothy Josiah Pertz, (and partner in the band, Los Flying
Borracho Brothers), was a Harvard boy and his undergraduate thesis is
titled: The Jewgrass Boys: Bluegrass Music's Emergence in New York
City's Washington Square Park, 1946-1961

Tater, I saw Allison and NBB on the same bill at Knowlton Riverfest in
 Jersey a few years back.

This Saturday at Harvard University

2010-02-01 Thread Glenn Scott
Me again ... just two days on the list and already a pest! But five minutes
ago I learned about the following extremely remarkable event at Harvard
University this Saturday, and felt I should post it for those who might be able
to get to the Boston area:

FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN -- a daylong symposium and performance event
celebrating Bluegrass, an original American form. Fire on the Mountain will
feature distinguished blue grass scholars and Grammy-Award winning performers
in musical demonstrations, discussion of Bluegrass' cultural roots, and more.

Among the participants will be Sam Bush, Allison Brown, Bobby Hicks, Lynn
Dudenhostel, and, speak of the Devil, Jack Tottle ...

Read the details at
http://ofa.fas.harvard.edu/cal/details.php?ID=40851 ... there'll be some
tremendous stuff happening during the day, followed by a regular concert in
the evening ...

Here's the kicker: the whole thing is FREE, no ticket required ...

I have heard a rumor that Stanford University is going to offer a full
program in BlueGrass, I hope they realise that Mike Compton should be
one of their teachers.
