What is the issue here?

2005-02-11 Thread Foster, Graham
Hi TBBETA
I attach 2 small text files (Documentum links)
User Guide.drl arrived in TB, and double clicking on the link said I
couldn't access the file. Saving it my desktop and double clicking -
said I couldn't access the referenced file

User Guide2.drl was THE SAME e-mail message viewed from Outlook.
Doubling linking on this link - opened the Documentum file. Saving the
DRL to the desktop gave me a shortcut which I could use to get to the
file.

I know I'm old - but I can see no difference in these two files or
their contents. Anyone got an idea what the issue might be - and why
there is a difference in action here?

Thx
Graham

FWIW, I could open both files without problem.

They look the same in Notepad, maybe someone with a hex editor can
share more light.

Both files contain the line:

gdmsbprd:/0900310a80131e46?DMS_OBJECT_SPEC=CHRONICLE_IDDMS_VLAB=CURRENT

However, User Guide.DRL contains a newline (CR+LF) sequence, while
User Guide 2.DRL does not. It could very well be that your
Documentum software dies on the extra newline that The Bat! seems to
have added.

Note that if I save these files, one is 74 bytes and the other is 72
bytes, although The Bat! claims they are 78 and 75 bytes! This may be
another (unrelated) bug, though...

Documentum is a Document Management System. When you store a document
in the Documentum database you can send a reference by mail. But to
open this link you need to have the documentum desktop installed. That
is the reason you cannot open the file but not the referenced document.
