Help: TB asks for password I never entered!
Hello Tbbeta, Strange: suddenly TB asks me for a password when I try to send queued mail from the outbox. I never password protected any of my accounts, though! And it asks for the password only when I try to send queued mail, not when I open the inbox, outbox or settings, or do anything else with the account. I can even open the mail and send it via immediate send. What's going on? Is there anything I can check/do? BTW: the text of the message box is somewhat strange, it says: --- Please input account password for [ (input field) ] --- For what? When I simply hit enter I get: - Access violation at address 00B50D88 in module 'thebat.exe'. Read of address 0118. - Unfortunately I don't have a 3.x version here to test. -- Martin TB! 4.0.11 on Windows XP 5.1 Service Pack 2 Current beta is 4.0.14.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: 4.0.14.2 Spell Checker Issues
Hello Ian, snipped quite a bit One thing I did try was to install an earlier version of The Bat!, but I could not. When I start after the installation confirms I have installed the earlier version, the splash screen and Help|About both still show 4.0.14.2. Then checking Add or Remove Programs sees two offending entries there. Be patient for a few minutes, I'm looking at all dirs and registry attachments sent yesterday and will be suggesting what to do after I have breakfast. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Hello Miroslav, Was this macro ever present? I only know the following CSAPI macros. Must have been...as it worked nicely on 3.x %LANGUAGE=CSAPI GE Tried this one, and it works! Thanks a lot, could have thought of this myself though ;-) Background information: GN was supposed to switch to Neue Deutsche Rechtschreibung (the new orthography introduced for the german language some years ago) while GE was used for old orthography. Hello, tbbeta. Again, the same AV I've catch when using Alt+F2. I don't know how to reproduce it surely, but AFAIK the same was on previous (official) version. Re: 4.0.14.2 Spell Checker Issues
Hello Ian, I have attached a folder listing of the The Bat! program folder. M Can you attach (or send by PM) the listing of Speller and Dictionaries M directories? M Also, can you export and attach this Registry key? M HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\SpellCheck Here are the files. OK, here I am. I'll try to respond to your different issues in this and other threads. First of all I must say that I didn't find anything that I can say *is wrong*. Specially in regards to dictionaries, your registry entries do match the dictionaries you have in the Speller directory. However, there are a number of things that make me wonder how you have been doing upgrades along the years. For example: - In Speller directory I see dictionaries with dates as old as 1996 and then for many different years up to 2008. While all of mine (from the last IntPack) are dated 29/08/2007, except the user ones which may have been updated by the program (my userdic.tlx is dated 11/02/2008). - Your 'readme.txt' file (which contains the list of changes since the very first release and which hardly anybody reads, BTW) in The Bat! directory is dated 14/10/2007 while, if you had installed 4.0.14 correctly is should be dated 06/02/2008 or so. Have you had a look at it? If so, its contents should start with: ,- [ ] | The Bat! | Copyright (C) 1997-2008 RITLABS S.R.L. | Version 4.0 | | What's new in The Bat! 4.0 (comparing to v3.99.25)? `- Also, your 'licence_pro.rtf' file should have the same date. Now, before telling you what I would suggest you do now, I'll tell you how I go about upgrades to newer versions and, specially, about Beta versions. Look at my program dir attached and notice the dates. I always try to keep it 'as clean' as possible. What I do is: - For new versions with an MSI installation file, I do a Custom install and only install the Core files (no languages or dictionaries). This way I have the UI in English, the only one I use, and only the AM (SSCE American English) dictionary, which is installed by default along with 'accent.tlx', 'correct.tlx' and 'UserDic.TLX' user dictionaries. - If, for testing or any other reason, I want to install dictionaries for other language(s) I 'install' the latest International pack in a *temp* directory and from there I copy the desired language dictionaries to the Speller directory. The next time TB is executed will create the corresponding Registry entries. Similarly if I want to remove a language I don't use. - For Beta versions from *.rar files, I extract then to a temp dir, rename them to include the version number, *copy* them to the TB directory and then create a shortcut in my desktop. You can see this in attachment. This way I can easily switch versions for testing, and always have the last 'release' version (thebat.exe) available without needing to reinstall it. - You will also notice that I have a 'Disabled' directory. This is where I Move anything I want to remove from The Bat! directory before actually deleting (even to the recycle bin). Now, what I would do if I was you is: - First of all make a back up copy of your complete MAIL directory. Not a backup with TB, copy the whole tree somewhere else or ZIP it up. - Make a copy of of your 'user' dictionaries in Speller if you have added any words to them. - In another thread you say that your 'Add or Remove programs' in your Control Panel shows two different installations (3.99.29 and 4.0.14), which also makes me wonder how you have gone about upgrades. - Try to uninstall 4.0.14 using the 'Uninstall' option. This should remove program files only, but not used data (messages, address books, configurations files). - Then, if v3.99.29 still shows in 'Add Remove programs' try to uninstall it also. If it doesn't work or gives you some error and it isn't removed from 'Add Remove programs', try the 'Windows Installer CleanUp Utility' suggested in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] - If your 'The Bat' directory is still there and it is not completely 'clean', delete it. - Although I don't think it is absolutely necessary, delete your HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT key. You may want to export it and save it for a 'just in case' of for 'reference'. Finally, I would suggest a new installation of 4.0.14 (if you haven't, download download the MSI for pro AND the International Pack. - Do a 'Custom' installation as I explain above and only install Core. This will give you the English GUI and the American English dictionary to test if the speller (SSCE engine) works. - During installation, select the home mail directory to where ever you have it. - If asked to create an account, do so with a name you haven't used before. You can delete it afterwards. - Once installed, open

Hello Kyle, M Not here. Does it also happen if you do a 'Move to Folder..' (Ctrl+V)? Yes it does. I can select/Drag/Drop and it moves very slow, same with MoveToFolder. I am at a loss to determine what is going on. I brought up Outlook 2007, processed some incoming mail. Outlook was just about instantaneous, Much faster at receiving the mail. TB seems to download the mail, do an import, then delete the mail on the server. The incoming folder increments as the delete count progresses through the received mail. After mail is received, it seems to take 6-10 seconds to mark the email read and move to the next msg. I did select some coloring for the mail, I wonder if coloring the mail could be causing problems, seems unlikely, but that is the only change I have made other than updating the releases as they come out. RE: Moving Emails Issue
No, This is POP, I do not use IMAP as it is not available to me with my current ISP. I am using Outlook now as TB has become so slow in processing The mail I had to switch just to be able to answer this. This is really weird as everything else (apps) seems to be working normally. I even upped the priority of TB just to see if it made a difference and it did not. I compressed the mail folders, no improvement. I rebooted after stopping all other Pgms (msconfig), no difference. Something is impacting the processing and I just do not see what it is as yet. I am running a dual core Intel 3.1 ghz with 2gb mem so I don’t think it is hardware. I have also turned off Bitdefender virus pgm but no difference there either. The only thing I can think of to do is to go back version by version and see if I can see just where this started but that may not work if it is an alternation that would not be impacted by reversion. Any ideas??? Feature request: copy (drag drop) messages from the digest into a mail folder
Hello, tbbeta. Now the only action whan I drag drop an attachment from a message back into The Bat! window is creating of new message and re-attaching these files again. It would be fine if when dragging .eml or .msg files from the message (ex: from digest form of TBBETA) and releasing it on a mail folder, The Bat NOT open the new message, but copy these files into the folder as messages (and so, make the chain of them, if they are chained, etc.) Now one of the way to exctract a message from the digest and place it into a folder is to open it (by double-click) and then execute File-Copy or File-Move to folder. I wish it would be more native just to drag the .msg files into a folder without any composite actions. As a variant - it would be fine to make the possibility for VF - when I can create VF attached to real folder, which could show the plain (or chained) list of messages, which ara actually attached as .msg files to the (digest's) messages in the primal folder. -- Sincerely, Alexey. RE: Moving Emails Issue
I as well, but there lies the challenge. I will find it, one way or another. It has to be some configuration issue or something I have set inadvertently (although I would expect to be able to find a setting that would impact receiving mail. It has to be Filters, in line options, or something) and I did not realize the impact at the time while learning the functionality of the program. If no joy soon, I will be removing the program, cleaning the registry, and starting over with a clean install, implementing changes in a documented controlled posture unless you have a suggestion for a better approach. I have been watching your responses to issues posted to the beta group and like the verbiage and tact you use which, IMHO, is that of a seasoned professional. Just the facts...pure and simple.. I just said that they made me wonder about how Ian (and perhaps you and others) have been doing upgrades along the years. Please don't think I am attacking your analysis, it is because of you I have a working Hunspell and happy with that. Re updating, I am very new to TB and so have only had the last version of v3 and have updated with v4 as it came along and betas. The update process is what I do for all programs so if there is a quirk in this then TB had better sort it for new sales. What seems very strange is I see reports of SSCE giving problems with capitalisation yet for me I cannot reproduce this but it is with numeric combinations. I have also seen others complain about the 'spelling' saga but if it doesn't work then it needs to be kept prominent so that eventually it gets attention from the TB programming team. I have tried almost every thing you have suggested and but for manually modifying the registry, which I do not have the skills or understanding to do, though I do use a very good registry clean program (Ace utilities) to correct obvious registry errors.
