Voyager migratng help

2009-03-28 Thread Nick Danger
Hello List,

Here's one of those things that I recall reading about, thought Gee,
that sound useful, but at the time I didn't have any need for it and
the info has since slid out of my head.

Someone here told of a method to use for Voyager where you could just
copy the entire folder from a USB drive to your hard drive as needed.
I seem to remember that it involved mostly one particular file that
you need to name/rename depending on which drive it was that you were
currently transferring the data to.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Hello Mackley,

 I am right ?

Yes, but there was a work around with some file that once you
registered it for each drive you could then copy it back and forth
without needing to register it each time (if my memory is correct).

I just can't recall what file that was and what or how it needed to be
changed or renamed.

Hello Peter,

Your registration of The Bat! should work, provided you registered a
 pro version.

I'm going to guess he's referring to the need to buy an upgrade with
the jump in Voyager versions. Like the already mentioned gotcha with
the upgrade, there is no warning that the new version of Voyager will
require you to purchase an upgrade before you load it in.

It didn't catch me totally by surprise since I've been following the
beta list, but I can see where that's probably more exception than the
norm.

Quick Template Image Help

2009-01-06 Thread Nick Danger
Can this be done, and if so, how - as I can't seem to get it to work:

My screen capture autosaves to ScreenCap.jpg

I want to create a QuickTemplate where I can use it to insert the
capture into an email as an inline picture. I realize I need to have
the format as HMTL Only.

I try creating a quicktemplate and using the insert image function, then
selecting the file. It inserts it fine into the quicktemplate but when
calling the template from inside a message it doesn't work for me.

Any help, suggestions, or final word that it's impossible?

TIA,

Hello Martin,

IMHO it makes no sense to store the backup files on drive C:\

Just to offer up a differing opinion... I backup my voyager files onto
my main computer so the location is always the same. While there
might be some merit to backing up to the USB drive Voyager is on, I'd
suggest that's not the best idea as if the USB goes bad - there goes
Voyager and your backups.

Hello Martin,

Over here I have a small edit window glitch: The position of the
edit window seems not to be stored.

Confirmed. I use dual monitors at work and the window always opens up
hanging off the left and extending partially into the right.

I'll also add to this that Voyager acts funny when starting up on
machines with different screen resolutions - often even changing
window split mode by itself. When switching between work and home
computers I have to resize the window and reset the split mode each
time. Seems like it ought to be able to sense resolution and adapt
accordingly.

Hello Maurice,

I'm experiencing a lot of problems with damaged folders in my Voyager
 installation.

 1) What can I do to prevent this from happening again?
 2) What is the best procedure to restore Voyager from a backup?

I'm afraid I can't really help with the questions but I can state I
have lived through this also. It seems once a folder gets corrupted
somehow it's lights out and there's no fixing it. I had to finally
just delete the folders that were giving me problems and start over
with them.

I spent days fooling with them and in the end I lost messages.
Backups didn't help as every time I restored a backup I just got the
corrupted folders back. I never mentioned it here as I have no idea
what causes them to go bad. If it was repeatable I'd have hoisted a
flag, but since it just happens out of the blue it's hard to report a
specific problem.

Although, it is at times like this that I wish encryption with
Voyager was optional.

Hello Vili,

 - if a folder contains e.g. 1000 messages, it shows the content of
that folder slower than before. For seconds, the mail list pane is
 empty...

Can't confirm. I have 5 folders with 1K messages and can flip
between them and the last message displays almost instantly here.

In other news... trying to correct my common filter issue over the
weekend I ended up with a lot of corrupted folders and decided to
just do a fresh install of Voyager. Having cleared out the registry
of any RIT stuff I installed Voyager and with nothing but that
welcome message in there I had a flapping bat instead of a spinning
compass. Again, it doesn't bother me but it sure is weird how I get
that.

What file system are you using with Voyager? I'd swear we discussed

2007-05-21 Thread Nick Danger
The one major complaint I've had with using Voyager was that it took
around 15 minutes for it to clear itself from Window's processes after
shutting it down. If I shut it down and suddenly remembered something
I needed it for I had to go in and manually stop it before I could
restart Voyager.

Anyway... I found out the culprit, and it kills me that it was so easy
that I've struggled with it this long. The solution? I reformatted my
USB drive to NTFS. I'm guessing it came formatted as FAT as I never
bothered to reformat it upon buying it. Running it as NTFS, I can
close Voyager down and it closes and clears memory faster almost
instantaneously.

So if anyone else has had this problem of voyager.exe hanging around
in memory for far too long, check to see how your USB drive is
formatted - it may make a difference.

Hello Vili,

I think, it was not the FAT/NTFS change. It was the fact that when
you reformatted the drive, you inherently defragmented the drive.

Well, I was about to say I didn't think so as I had defragged the
drive before hoping that would help but it didn't. But before sending
off that post I figured I'd try some actual testing and reformatted
back to FAT to see what would happened. Fired up Voyager, and quit -
and sure enough it just sat there hanging around in memory until I
went in and killed it myself.

So I can confidently say that at least in my case the change to NTFS
solved the problem.

Hello Doug,

How many Voyager lives did you use up in this test? It seems that
every time I reformat my drive, I have to reactivate the key. I
think I am down to one or two activations left, so I am not eager to
procede with the reformat to NTFS, even though I've been wanting to
 do this for some time.

Just one. As the drive ID includes format I needed a new one for the
NTFS format. Other than that I just change the volume ID number back
to what it was before reformatting. I use both a USB stick and USB
external drive but have them both ID'd the same so I can just update
whatever drive I want to use with my current Voyager installation and
run with it.

Hello Mark,

Are you talking about a USB HD or a USB memory stick?

Memory stick, but it was purchasing a USB hard drive that brought the
problem to light. I formatted the hard drive to remove all the
preinstalled stuff I didn't want and then changed the volume ID. When
Voyager needed to be reactivated, that's what caused me to realize I
never formatted my USB stick and it was FAT. So to make it easy to
swap Voyager back and forth I formatted my stick to NTFS and BAM! I
noticed how quickly Voyager suddenly exited memory.

I didn't format the hard drive to FAT to see if that caused Voyager to
hang on it. Mainly because I already have a bunch of stuff on it and
don't feel like dealing with the hassle.

Anybody using Voyager: does the POP3 protocol logging works for you?

I don't normally use it so I went and enabled it, did a manual mail

everything that happened.

If there was anything in particular you wanted checked out in the log

I've been using Voyager 3.95.06 and over the last couple of days
noticed that TB!began hanging after a few mail checks

I've been closely motoring this for the past couple of weeks and think
I've come to a conclusion the problem is/was part local and part TB!.

The reason TB! was hanging is that I was getting internet drops during
its checks. That's the local portion of the problem. The TB! part is
that once it hung up due the drop TB! never cleared itself, even with
manual help in trying to abort the task. With that, there was no way
to exit TB! without going into task manager and stopping it.

It was just an odd coincidence that the intermittent connection
problems I was having corresponded to upgrading to the latest Voyager
beta. Once the connection stabilized the hanging wasn't a problem
anymore since TB! could complete the connection uninterrupted.

So I'm calling it a non-beta issue and just a continuation of the long
standing problem of TB! hanging if it runs into some kind of issue
while connecting and the user being unable to affect it at that point.

Voyager hanging on mail check?

2007-01-05 Thread Nick Danger
Okay, this is going to be kinda vague and I don't have much in the way
of empirical data on this, but this is what's happening to me:

I've been using Voyager 3.95.06 and over the last couple of days
noticed that TB!began hanging after a few mail checks with messages
such as:

 01/05/2007, 12:56:45: FETCH - receiving mail messages
!01/05/2007, 12:57:14: FETCH - Could not connect to the server
 01/05/2007, 13:00:45: FETCH - receiving mail messages
 01/05/2007, 13:01:36: FETCH - Couldn't connect to 64.233.185.109 trying
subsequent addresses...
 01/05/2007, 13:01:46: FETCH - Connecting to 64.233.185.111...
!01/05/2007, 13:02:00: FETCH - Could not connect to the server

coming up in the log.

Checking the Connection Centre would show all my accounts in continual
check mode with times listed from the first check fail and counting
up.

For the heck of it I went back to 3.85.03 and haven't had a hang on
check since. For what it's worth, these accounts are all gmail
accounts.

As I stated in am earlier post I had to bail on it also as it seemed

I know that was it as whenever my machine started slowing to a crawl

Hello Vili,

I have the public version, and I have two annoying things in SmartBat.
(Is there a Voyager Beta out there?)

Not that I've been privy to.

 1. Sometimes I cannot change between tabs. I click on the name of the
 next Tab, nothing happens...

Yep, if you make any changes to a file you will not be able to tab
away from it.

 2. I write something in it, and press Esc. Data was not saved. Would
you like to abandon changes?. If I hit Yes, that actually saves the
 data...

Also confirmed. When I first mentioned this months ago I was told it
was being taken care of but there has not been Voyager release since
then so I have no confirmation of that.

Not a show stopper, but annoying as heck. Especially since I use that
wacky little thing (Smartbat) quite a bit.

Smart Bat Problems v/ Voyager 3.80.04

2006-05-10 Thread Nick Danger
I just installed Voyager 3.80.04 and am having Smart Bat act funky.

If I open it up and do anything to one of the pads I can't switch to
another pad, and if I try to exit I get this message:

Data was not saved. Do you wish to abandon changes? Yes/No/Cancel

If I click Yes is closes and if I reopen the changes I made are still
there, but the real sticking point is that it's impossible to changes
more than one pad per session as I can't jump between pages.

Can anyone confirm (I'm guessing this is Voyager specific, if it's not
just a me problem.)

Thanks

Hello Thomas,

I would certainly like an indication of the version number on the
 download website.

Yep, I did the same hunt this morning myself.

An additional version number in the file number (like with the main
 program) would be appreciated.

Seconded.

Because it affects corporate users VERY MUCH, please include this fix

I would like to toss my support to this proposal. This bug has also

Exchange server - not auto sending w/ mail check.

2006-02-15 Thread Nick Danger
After extensive testing I can confirm the following:

If while you're editing a message an auto mailcheck takes place, the
message you're editing will just sit in the outbox and will not be
sent. If you send the message before an autocheck happens the message
will be properly sent.

This is completely reproducible without fail for me.

This is using MAPI protocol only. I've not noticed this with any other
setting.

I think it was Vili that first mentioned this, can anyone else using
MAPI confirm?

Thanks,

Earlier I wrote

 After extensive testing

After even further testing I think I've narrowed it down even more.

There must be a saved (auto or manual) copy in the outbox when the
mail check takes place.

As I had my autosave set at 20 seconds this was pretty much a given
combo for me, but further testing and playing around seems to have
given me an optional work-around by setting the autosave feature out
of useful range.

Of course, I might lose a lot of work if something happens to my
message I'm editing and there's no save, but it may be better than
forgetting and having a message roosting in the outbox when I thought
it was sent.

Anyway, if any MAPI users have some spare time and would like to test
out my findings I'd appreciate any comments - if anyone can confirm
I'll submit a bug report.

Thanks,

MAPI/Exchange send hiccup

2006-02-01 Thread Nick Danger
Hello TBbeta,

My one quirk I've noticed in using MAPI and exchange server is that
once in awhile a sent message hangs out in the outbox and doesn't go.
I'll suddenly notice it camping out and have to manually resend it to
get it out the door and on its way.

I do not have delayed send, but do have confirm immediate send - so I
do respond Yes to the Send? question, but apparently sometimes TB!
thinks better of it and decides to ignore my preference.

I can't pinpoint exactly when this started happening but I've noticed
it for quite a few months now - before I began using Voyager for sure.

Hello Robert,

Get rid of that and let everything be relative to the General Mail
 Directory, and it works.

Wow, what an adventure that turned out to be!

I changed the directory of all my accounts to be defaulted to the
normal mail folder. Suddenly TB crashed. Big time. Wouldn't start back
up. Rebooted. Still no luck. Ran MSI repair. Nothing. Oh-oh.

I had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall.

Finally got Pro installed and running but guess what - I could never
get my common filters loaded into Pro. I'm guessing there's a real
problem associated with common filters and converting to Pro or
Voyager.

For giggles, since I was already in up to my neck, I added some new
common filters to Pro and tried to get Voyager up and running.

Well, changing my mail folders back to default did indeed fix the
problem of Voyager trying to access stuff that didn't exist and I got
all my accounts loaded and intact - but the new common filters I
created in Pro didn't make the transfer. So I'm stuck rebuilding
hundreds of common filters.

After all this, I have these words for Ritlabs about Voyager:

They really need to work out how to do a backup and restore from a
program that is *not* using the default settings - I can't be the only
person that was not using them.

They also need to figure out what's happening with common filters.

Still, overall I am very happy to have Voyager running - even if I
have a lot of filter rebuilding ahead of me.

Voyager - I'm crying Uncle.

2005-12-05 Thread Nick Danger
Well, I spent the better part of the weekend and this morning playing
around trying to get Voyager to a useable point and am tossing in the
towel. Here's my laundry list of woes:

When trying to restore a backup from my main TB! program Voyager
insists on writing the directories using the original path. So in my
original mail folder I end up with all the normal files along with
encrypted folders along side. If I make the original path unreadable
all I get is errors in Voyager telling me it can't write to it - which
it shouldn't be doing anyway!

I have not been able to get any common filters copied over to it.

If I just copy the folders from my main program over to the USB drive
and try to point Voyager to use that as the home for a new account it
doesn't recognize any of the content in those folders and just creates
a new empty account.

In trying countless numbers of restores to be able to use my existing
folders, filters, etc. I would often end up getting .exe errors where
the only way to get Voyager working again was to wipe it out
completely and start over again fresh.

On some fresh installs I would end up with a program that wouldn't
allow any additions to filters. Any changes I made were lost between
sessions.

As a long time user of TB! I'm well aware of things not being user
friendly and needing a pioneer spirit to work with the program but
Voyager has kicked my ass. I upgraded to Pro just for the use of
Voyager as it's the program I've been waiting for. Hopefully, it's
just a matter of waiting a little longer and not a sign of how hard it
might be to get all the years of getting TB! to work the way I want
it transferred over to a mobile app.

While I know the above sounds like a lot of complaining, it's coming
more from days of frustration and I wrote it mainly to let Max and
company know there's someone who is not having a good experience with
the program and that there might be real problems with people trying
to do a simple backup and restore from TB! to Voyager.

Hello Roelof,

ND When trying to restore a backup from my main TB! program Voyager
ND insists on writing the directories using the original path.

 Can't confirm that.

Yeah, I keep seeing the messages where people say that the restore to
TBV went fine. Believe me I'm envious!

So you weren't using OTFE, that's a difference with me.

To be honest, I haven't a clue how to convert to OTFE. I just received
my Pro registration and loaded up the latest .msi from Ritlabs over my
home version. There was no option about converting that I've seen and
no option in the menus. But yeah, the files/folders I backed up were
not encrypted.

Did you have all of your accounts stored in the same mail directory
or were they in different locations?

All the accounts are under one folder called mail.

ND I have not been able to get any common filters copied over to it.

Can't comment on that as I don't use those.

Unfortunately, that all I use. Hundreds of them!

ND If I just copy the folders from my main program over to the USB drive
ND and try to point Voyager to use that as the home for a new account it
ND doesn't recognize any of the content in those folders and just creates
ND a new empty account.

I guess that could be because of the unencrypted format of your current
 accounts,

Probably. So... what's the trick to converting to OTFE in Pro?

What version did you use? All of my tests were run with the first
voyager.zip extracted and the latest beta put on top of it.

That's exactly how I've been testing for the last twenty tries or so.

Maybe it's the encypted/non-encrypted thing that creating problems.
I'd love to convert my Pro over and give it another shot.

Hello Robert,

What is your setting for Home Directory in Account Properties/Files
Directories. Did you speficy a complete path or are you using Default.
I have Default for each account and just a Mail Directory set in
 Preferences/System.

A complete path. Because. and this is why I want Voyager so badly,
I have the mail directories on a USB drive - not below the folder with
all of TB's executables.

I bet you have a hard coded path in your Account properties. Get rid of
that and let everything be relative to the General Mail Directory, and it
 works.

I guess I can try copying all my mail folders to the default position
and try that. What's another hour or so after a wasted weekend! Keep

2005-12-04 Thread Nick Danger
Can anyone tell me what file the filter information (specifically common
filters) is kept in for Voyager?

I can't seem to create any common files and wanted to wipe out that
file and see if that helps.

Thanks,

Voyager - mobility?

2005-12-03 Thread Nick Danger
Hey all,

I have Voyager up and running but when I took my USB drive and plugged
it into another computer and then ran Voyager all I got was a plethora
of error messages that it couldn't open folders as it was looking for
a drive letter that didn't exist.

This can't be right - I'm hoping!

Ideas of what I might be doing wrong?

When I try to add/edit a quick template I get the following error:

 can't confirm that.

However, any changes I make to my filters are not saved from session
to session.

Voyager - Filter assignments

2005-12-03 Thread Nick Danger
An update on filters not keeping changes...

It seems to be a bit more specific at least in my case.

If I make any changes specifying to what accounts certain common
filters are assigned, the changes are lost upon exiting Voyager.

Thanks.

Message Format Option

2005-09-22 Thread Nick Danger
Hi All,

I just noticed an oddity that I don't recall seeing mentioned before.

If you start a new message, change accounts using the bottom menu bar,
the Message Format option under the options menu vanishes and is no
longer an option.

Can anyone confirm?

Hello Charlene,

so I tested it with a new mail -same result. So: no confirmation.

Interesting. I reloaded v3.61.06 (which is a show stopper for me
because of the printing problem) and I still had the option disappear
upon account switching.

One confirmation, one mine works fine - you're nuts.

What will be the tie breaker?

Hello Stuart,

If this means reply to selected text when replying with HTML to an
HTML e-mail, then it only partly works. The selection seems to be
 truncated at random places.

Confirmed.

And the themes seemed to have disappeared, at least in my case.
