Filter Problem?
I've been noticing that message from one particular sender are often sent to the junk folder instead of going where the filter that matches both the subject and the sender (though the filter is set to the OR of either one.) This doesn't ALWAYS happen, but it has been happening often enough that I need to ask a question: What happens first: Filtering or Junk Checking? I have the Regula anti-spam plug-in and, overall, have been very happy with it, so this is more of a curiosity than a problem. I think I can correct it by adding the automated account that sends me the daily report that is having trouble to my address book (and thereby whitelisting it for the anti-spam plug-in.) I'm still curious about the order of evaluation, though. It certainly /looks/ like the anti-spam is run BEFORE any of my filters. I wonder if it would be possible (and useful) to be able to have the anti-spam and anti-virus plug-ins listed in the filters so that we could move some of our own special exceptions before or after them? -- Steven Vallière | tb 5.3.6.2 (BETA) | mailto:the...@e-visions.com -- If you didn't write it down, then it didn't happen. -Larry Zana Current beta is 5.3.6.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Outgoing Mail Filter Problem
Hello, I hope that someone can confirm this or tell me if it has been fixed. I'm currently using 4.2.24.5 and set an outgoing filter to forward a message of all outgoing emails from a specific account to my boss (he wants to see everything - don't ask). My problem comes from TB forwards a copy as planned, but then gets stuck in a never ending look to send a forward of the forward (since another email was created). Can anyone confirm this? Thanks! -- Best regards, Jim mailto:t...@refcloset.com Current beta is 4.2.33.9 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Outgoing Mail Filter Problem
Hello Zygmunt, Thank you for the response. Actually, I was able to create a work around by simply setting the filter from Any Message to Recipient does not equal and my boss's email address. (besides, if I send him an email to begin with, I don't need another copy of it going to him) I would think that TB would be able to catch that loop, though. -- Best regards, Jimmailto:t...@refcloset.com Current beta is 4.2.33.9 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Filter problem
Hello all , I have a filter that I activate manually. It has worked for at least 2 years on the currently highlighted message. In this version it not only acts on the message that is highlighted, but on the one above it as well. (As if you held the combination of keys too long) This filter exports the message to a text file and has two sub-filters. The first creates an automatic reply and the second moves the original message to a different folder. In order to test this I created a new filter. I did it one step at a time. Export step - Resulted in the same message being exported twice instead of just once. Automatic Reply - Same result as above with 2 messages being sent to the same address. Move to a different folder - Resulted in the original scenario. The current message and the previous message are both exported, two replies to the two messages and 2 messages moved. This is extremely odd and very dangerous. I have copied my newly created filter below. It should work with the only modification needed being a to the folder the files are moved to. Try out on some test messages. By removing the check mark from step 3 you should be able to see the other result I was getting as well. TB! Hello TB Beta List, I have a filter that is triggered by empty subject - it does nothing but does not continue processing (leaving the mail in the inbox). Hi, Oliver. Olivier Mascia wrote: Is there some central wish-list about TB IMAP features somewhere ? I'd like to read it and probably add some input. Peter recently started a thread on this topic at: msgid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] [snip] I found your discussion of POP3/IMAP clients highly interesting and educational, and your suggestion of separating POP3 and IMAP clients to be quite thought provoking. I'm surprised that it hasn't generated more discussion here. In between, I now daily use TB 3.0 for IMAP. But I still need to daily use other clients for some tasks. I am also using multiple clients. However, in my case, usage is reversed. I use mostly other clients, and use TB! only occasionally. There are just too many IMAP features still missing, and that, combined with the performance issues I'm having, makes it too time consuming and frustrating to use on a regular basis. The only fear I have is that the remaining things to add or correct might be too cumbersome to implement in an email client that has to do POP too. The weakiest move of Mulberry was when they decided to add POP support to it. The number of deficiencies sky rocketed at that time. This, too, I find very interesting. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong ? This is an interesting insight. I have only one IMAP provider and that's myself. I've been noting that my Inbox filters work when they feel like. Some seem to work consistently, while others don't. Both are filters that look for header string matches. In fact, the one that often doesn't work at all is one that matches all messages not yet already filtered (it's the last filter in the filter set). I've never thought that the filter could be working differently depending on the provider and that this could be a factor in the existence of this annoying problem. All I can say is that you're certainly not alone with this problem and that it isn't your fault or anything you're doing wrong. It's just TB! IMAP and we have to wait for a fix if we're up to waiting. Does your provider allow for server side filtering? Many providers allow for webmail control of IMAP accounts. These webmail interfaces often allow for filtering. You could setup filters there and then let TB!'s broken filtering do as little as possible. This is my current system of dealing with things. Re: Filter problem with IMAP account
Peter Fjelsten, [PF] wrote: Each time I assign a colour group to an IMAP message, that colour group is lost on moving the message. This isn't surprising since moving the message moves the message to another IMAP folder on the server. TB! sync's with this IMAP folder which holds no information about colour group assignment, a purely local feature for TB!. As a result, there is no colour group assignment when you check the message in the other folder. You may propose then that RL implements a system when the colour group is locally reassigned when the message is moved. I'd wonder why bother since it really isn't worth the hassle. If you fire up another TB! client on another machine and access the IMAP account, all colour groups assigned via the initial TB! installation will not be seen. What's the point then of using an attribute that doesn't carry across to other IMAP clients? If you use a single client, then why use IMAP then? TB! needs to implement the added message attributes that are standard for the IMAP protocol, so that when you label the message, ThunderBird will show it, Mulberry will show it, and last but not least, your other TB! installations at other locations will show it. I'd personally disagree with the proposal that they commit efforts at making colour groups work better when it's only local. -- -= Allie =- . Re: Macro/Quick template/Filter problem and suggestion
On Friday 8 September 2000 Januk Aggarwal wrote: A quick question, do you filter all these subscriptions to individual folders? If you do, have you considered using folder level templates? Yes and no. I filter to different folders based on the subject of the list, but many lists usually go into each folder. All TB lists in one, NT devel lists in another, chat lists in another etc. This gives me more flexibility too: I can move lists around between folders if I like, and the recipient template follows. After performing any edit on the message, auto templates no longer work. I can sympathize with your predicament, but this is the way TB should handle the templates. Oh, absolutely. I wasn't suggesting TB should do this otherwise. I'm just pointing out that as an inevitable consequence, I end up having to do more work than I'd like to recover from forgetting to set the To: line *before* touching the message body. I can't reproduce. TB won't let me send a message with no To: or BCC: field filled in. I wasn't clear, sorry: I meant "forget to change the To: header from TB's default to what I think it should be". Since I usually to Reply To All, then cut'n'paste the resulting addresses to the right place, this is usually the original author, not the list. The act of fiddling the To: header then activates the auto template, assuming I haven't actually edited the message body yet. (Normal Reply isn't flexible enough for me - I don't want to be at the mercy of listserv's Reply-To: munging, and for some lists I'm on replies to both list and author are more appropriate.
