installing Imad's new PGP plugin solves the problem, for all versions

Hei,

I think there is a (basic) misunderstanding about the bug we're talking
about here: We don't mean the problem of the text in the dialog (which is
the same on I think all systems and not actually a big bug) but the
strange characters which are *added to a mail body* when signing a mail -
on some systems. And according to a user in the German newsgroup this
problem is indeed fixed.

OK, if that happens (have yet to see it), PGP plugins definitely need
an overhaul. But we first still have to find the culprit.
How does it break signatures? I've seen some messages with the odd
characters but they verified alright as I remember.

I do not have the eMail anymore, but I think it was one or two
messages. Might as well be the recipient... Let's try, does this
message verify?

Oh yes, last thought: It happens *only* when you use Sign when
completed. Even if you use the plugin Sign Entire Text, it's
fine...

I have sent you an encrypted mail privately. Let's see if it works. I
tried to encrypt with the GPG plugin, but it won't find your key

Dear Dirk,

Going back 10:11 28.03.2002...

I know that many people ask for a plugin for 7.xx, but due to NAI's
policy about publication of source code, I can understand anybody not
wanting to support it (like RITLabs, me CKT or Phil Zimmermann
 himself).

I understand that PGP 7 might be lossing edge, but I'm talking about
the PGP 6.x problems with the plugin...

All in all, PGP support is quite good in TB! - at least for the basic
 operations needed.

We're currently evaluating The Bat! especially in the PGP context for
my employer. It needs to work...

encrypted message: It is just a test about those elusively coming and
going of garbage characters with PGP.

Some people - like Nick - seem to have them regularly, some never
(like me). Nick told me I have to sign *and* encrypt. Oh, and I sent
him the ID and fingerprint of the key I used to encrypt the message.

I sent it through the list because the address I have from him wasn't
resolved by my server - he couldn't find @home.com).

There is definitely something wrong with 1.60a's implementation of PGP

Together with this mail another reply to your message is out, the
other one signed. When I just checked it in my Outbox, it looked
alright. Only the Passphrase pane had a garbled title. I am using CKT

No strange characters. Hmmm? Did you use TB's PGP Plugin to sign? Wait a
minute... apparently it only happens when you sign/encrypt a message, or at
least that is the process I undertook. Try sending yourself a short
encrypted message... using the Plugin... and see if you receive the same
results.

This is a 'long' standing bug and Ritlabs refuses to fix it. Look at

msgid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] from 19-11-01:

| I found the following statement from Max in the bugtracker (id 50):
|
| We no longer support PGP plugin DLL development.
|
| Why is that und why is even the (imho) major bug additional characters
| are added not going to be fixed? Does that mean TB! will focus only on
| GnuPG? Will PGP7 not be supported (as announced on the user meeting in
| Cologne)?

No need to say that I haven't got a reply from the developers, neither to
private mails, nor to the posting in the list.

And of course people are complaining that the GnuPG integration wasn't
continued, but this is another topic.

Hmmm? I was afraid of something like that. Hopefully once GnuPG 1.0.7 is
released RITLabs will begin work on an updated GnuPG Plugin. If, on the
other hand they refuse to implement one, then all one has to do is
continue using GPGShell, which, even if you are using Win NT/2K/XP, will
provide for KeyServer access. GPG 1.0.7 is reported to have fixed a bug
that prevented those Users from accessing the KeyServers from within
GPGShell.
