Generic view mode gives no problems, but the one I usually use gives No message loaded error with blank screen. Will citing the offending view mode help? Double clicking the message SHOULD open it in a full viewing window, but with certain view modes it opens the pane, but with the message No Message Loaded shown. With No View Mode set as the view mode for a folder it works fine, at least 2 other view modes and the message is not displayed with a double click. Basically one view mode that causes the problem is show: Created, From, Subject, Attachments and Parking all ticked and Sort by Created in Ascending Order, with Expand All Threads ticked too.
