AY and missing signature delimiters?

The trout is the fish used in the Asterix comic books by the fish
dealer called Verleihnix in German (don't know his name in other
languages). He slaps people with this dead and wet and apparently
smelly fish when they do something wrong.

Some people say this is the origin of trouting by moderators. Others
say the word has its origin in the usenet and has nothing to do with
Asterix and Obelix, and Leif was the first one to use it on a TB list.

Thanks for the concrete information, Thomas. That was, despite the
humor or perhaps because of its unavoidable humor, what I was looking
for.

In of itself, nothing. The trout is what they hit you with for such

delimiter!

Hello Avi,

A reminder of what Avi Yashar on TBBETA typed on:

AY What does a trout have to do with top posting
AY and missing signature delimiters?

If your a naughty boy you get a slap with a big wet fish. As most
moderators on here are very poor they can't afford Salmon so they have
 to use trout.

When the trout run out they'll have to start using haddock :)

Well, Stuart, I feared as much. But I hoped that the trout was somehow
just metaphorical. Poor fish! Do you suppose the moderators could
start using something like a limp banana instead... something that
would not offend the sensibilities of vegetarian, animal-rights
activists like me? :-)

What and have the WTO on their back from using bananas from the wrong
country?! I shouldn't think so. Anyway I think that they're all kinda
hooked on the fishy smell.
