You no what they say the word assume, it makes an "ass" out of "u" and
"me". Well it just made an as out of me. :(

I just reread your initial message and I quote "If I go into "Message
List Columns"". I had assumed that you meant you could not make any
changes, but you actually meant that you could not make changes by
going into "Message List Columns". You are correct you cannot make
changes in here that stick and I agree that it is a bug.

As a work around, try right clicking on the header columns, select
manage viewmodes, and then select the mode you want to change. Make
your changes and they should stick. You can also make changes, like
sort order by clicking on the headers and that will stick also
depending on your setting for saving changes.

Hope this makes sense and if you want to report it as a bug I will
confirm it.

Yes this is odd. Do you have View/Global View Mode/ set to none. This
is also essential.

Since one of the recent versions there have been choices under the
Options/Preferences/Messages/View Modes as to how changes to the
View Modes are handled. They are:
Ask Confirmation
Ignore changes
Save

If you have the checkmark beside Ignore changes it will act as you
say.
