no text in reply

2011-03-07 Thread Gary
Hi guys,

In this latest beta version, not only do I not have any partially quoted
text (F4) in a reply, but any time I reply to any message, even full
replies using (Ctrl+F5), no text is shown in the editor window. This
applies to both HTML or plain txt mail.

This is the first message I was able to reply (F4) which showed the reply
text. The last 150 or so since this beta came out did not... and this is a
clean install on a new Windows 7 machine. Even a simply full reply does
not show any text. Very strange.

Do you by any chance have an account that needs a password to be opened. I have
had this happen, where the quick template I was using was defined in the
password protected account and cannot be shared unless that account is opened.

There may also be issues of other kinds if you are using quick templates for
replies.

That's kinda weird Gary, because I had a similar issue up until this latest
Beta.
Now F4 works fine here. I just changed between Windows MicroEd editors to see
if it
made a difference and it still works fine in either.

You've just nailed the primary issue that has kept me from
running TB5. I've tried a few of the betas but wierd things
are always broken and all the ones I've found in the bug
tracker are marked as fixed a long time ago. Not knowing or
remembering what magic file(s) to delete to make things fix
themselves (as if by magic!), I keep returning to TB4.2.42
and it keeps working as I expect.

It is weird Ron... I can't explain it, but it has been intermittent in

Mark the text, which you want to have quoted, right-click - message -
reply quoting selected text.

There once was an option to quote highlighted text to original sender.
I don't know, where it's gone, I think it was CTRL-Shift-F4 or
something similar. I'd love to have that back.

CP European high-ASCII characters from quoted text to reply text within the same message (was: templates)

2004-05-29 Thread Thomas Fernandez
Hello Alexander,

Alexander Leschinsky wrote:

TF I reply to a mail in Spanish, which obviously comes in with the right

TF my reply, and since alt-0241 is cumbersome on an English keyboard, I
TF copy paste from the quoted text - and see a question mark pasted
TF instead of the ñ. Why is that?

AL Because at least you must have Spanish keyboard layout and Copy
AL from after swithing to this layout

Let's go down to what a character is. It is a string of hex values, or
let's say a byte full of 1's and 0's. The different keybaord layouts
have the only effect that a certain key produces a certain byte. for
example, if I hit the key that depicts a Y on the English keybaord, a
certain byte will be sent, and this will be interpreted to show
something on the screen, which according to my character set and font
will be what I see as a Y.

If I hit the key depicting a Y on the English keybaord while my
keyboard layoput is set to German, another sequence will be sent,
namely the one which will be interpreted as a Z on my screen. In order
to make a Y visible, I now need to hit the Z key on the English
keybaord (I still have German keybopard layout set). In order to make
computers in Germany usable, the manufacturer will just print Y
instead of Z onto the key.

The 1's-and-0's-sequence for the letter remains the same, regardless
of which key I have to hit according to the layout.

So, if I see an ñ in a mail, I know it has a certain sequence of 1'
and 0's (someone convert alt-0241 into binary, please). If I copy this
into the clipboard, this sequence will not (or is not supposed to)
change. If I paste it, I will expect to see the same letter, and that
has nothing to do with my keyboard layout.

When I type alt0241, the ñ will be shown, so the font and the
character set know it. Try with this message: Hit reply and copy and
paste the above character into your new text. Tell me whether you see
an ñ or a question mark.

AL (this usually not needed on non-unicode Windows, but I suppose
AL Chinese Win98 have some hacks, which transorm it into
AL half-Unicode, but it's IMHO and can be full delirium)

I can replicate the erroneous behaviour in the office under XP Pro.
All my keyboard layouts are US-English.

Well, you forgot abt difference about visualization and storage

In Unicode-powered OS a part programs is Unicoded'd, part - lacks
Unicode support, and transferring (8|16)-bit data between _these_
programs can give some headache... Not in Unicode-Unicode or
nonUnicode-nonUnicode... Well, more precisely - problem will appear only
in one direction Unicode - nonUnicode
And just for note - clipboard in 2000-XP _is_ Unicode
