IMAP focus (for Ritlabs)

2006-02-20 Thread Peter Fjelsten
Hello beta testers, well especially Ritlabs.

Where did the focus on IMAP go to? Suddenly there are not more IMAP
 fixes.

 Current problems:

Folder counts still wrong (and changing all the time for some
accounts)

Remote outbox still not working properly (duplicates)

"Cannot flag messages due to processing error" happens often.

All these issues have been confirmed by Ritlabs.

In manage IMAP mailboxes, make an draft or outbox folder (whatever you
want to call it).

In Properties > Mail management, tick outbox and select the folder on
the server you want to be outbox.

Bugs IMAP 3.80.06

2006-05-15 Thread Peter Fjelsten
Hello beta testers.

These bugs have been there for a while:

Remote Outbox. Start composing a message. It's being auto saved when
you type some text. Keep the Editor open. Now open an additional editor
and type some text and send it. Now TB wants to delete the message the
first editor has open (you'll get a prompt). Clearly an issue with
keeping track of which messages to delete.

Virtual folder under an IMAP account. Unread message count in the
Inbox: 1, in the Virtual folder: 1. The account shows: 2. I have _not_
enabled "Count in upper level". If I disable that and enables it again
 the count becomes correct.

I still get way too many "Cannot fetch message list due to processing
error" or other "processing error" errors.

Come on Ritlabs, time to get to work on IMAP again!

Exchange sending issues

2007-02-27 Thread Peter Fjelsten

Hello

When I send a message from TB using an Exchange account with a
reference to an existing profile on the computer, messages are not
really sent!

TB says they're sent (also in the log) and they go to the Sent folder,
but people do not receive them and when I open Outlook, they are in in
the Outbox folder. When Outlook has sent them, people get the mail.
This cannot be right!

2007-02-27 Thread Peter Fjelsten

Hi Maxim

Quoting Maxim Masiutin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

This cannot be right!
You are right, if you use "reference to an existing profile" the
messages are stored in the local Outlook store and not really sent
out, please do not use the "reference to an existing profile" to get
 the messages sent.

How ON EARTH is this not mentioned anywhere?

I am really trying not to sound condescending but why on earth has is
been made this way? Why would you need an email account where the user
has every reason to believe messages are sent - but in reallity aren't?

What other details do I need to know regarding the differences between
these two ways of working with the account? Or working with Exchange
in general???

Purging IMAP folders

IMAP folder: "Keep messages in base: 4 days".

Deletion: Alternative deletion used for purging folder. Destination:

Status: automatic purge does not work. Manual purge + compress: yes.

I get this when the connection to the server has been somewhat lost. TB
handles bad network connections _incredibly_ bad. I get this all the
time.

Yup. TB IMAP for you.

See above ;-)

I hear we're getting a new UI with TB4 - swell, just what we need
instead of a _working_ e-mail client.

First we upgrade to version 2 on the promise of (better) IMAP support.
Then to version 3 on the same promise. We must be dumb.

Why should I? I have not paid for Pocomail. I never have problems with
Outlook.

If it is too hard to implement IMAP, then don't. Otherwise tell users
that TB IMAP will only work 80% - instead of promising IMAP _twice_.

First they told us it would be there that it will be there (version 2) -
and then for a second time - that _now_ it will really work (version 3).

Now they want us to do this again (version 4.1).

Anyway, EOD, since we're not getting anywhere.

Your comparison to some other software is irrelevant as I have not paid
for the other software to get a working IMAP client.

It's still the same topic for me.

RitLabs has promised IMAP several times and there are still significant
bugs.

I have upgraded 2 times on the promise of (better) IMAP and now RitLabs
wants my money a 3. time in order to deliver what they promised the
first time. You don't see anything wrong with that?

You don't seem to get that my issue is that RitLabs have taken my money
2 times for the "IMAP" feature and now they want it a third time - for
that same feature.

When some of the other bugs have been ironed out of this beta series, I

Beta 3.0.9.17: bugs (mainly IMAP)

2005-04-20 Thread Peter Fjelsten
Hello beta testers.

I have found the following issues with the latest beta (after testing
for 10 mins) - confirmations would be nice:

 # IMAP mailboxes are connected to/refreshed on startup although this
 has been "unticked".

 # Parked messages/drafts in Outboxes bold them. Icon wrong (old
"parked" icon and not "draft" icon).

 # I still cannot delete parked messages in local Outbox for IMAP
accounts - they _are_ moved to IMAP remote Trash but aren't removed
 from local Outbox.

 # Account Options: IMAP fine-tune "Allow N concurrent connections..."
text is wrapped and under other text strings.

 # This is almost certainly known: Old keyboard shortcuts are not
 migrated.

 What I like:

 # IMAP mailboxes seem to be bolded immediately when new mail arrives.
But I need more testing to be sure.

 Questions:

 # I suppose the "sort by thread" will be split up in "sort by
reference only" and "sort by reference and subject" - this would be
nice as I correspond with a lot of users of the broken e-mailer,
Outlook and for them, I need the combined mode. However, would it
be possible to show combined modes more cleverly, i.e. with more
 levels? I get:
  Original message
 |
 +--- Reply
 |
+--- My reply to the reply above
Would it not be possible to devise something that looks like this:
  Original message
 |
 +--- Reply
|
+--- My reply to the reply above
Based on "Correspondence with same person and looking at time
stamp" and maybe even using the Outlook Thread-Topic and
 Thread-Index headers if available?

 # Does anybody have any idea what the new IMAP option "Auto
 filtering" does?

<mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
9> Hello Peter,

PF>> # IMAP mailboxes are connected to/refreshed on startup although this

9> Sorry, don't get you here

OK, I'll try to be more specific:

For 2 of my 3 IMAP accounts I check here from work, I have set TB! _not_
to connect to them at startup. However, when I start TB! they are
bolded, indicating new mail.

Strangely enough, after some time, they unbold themselves. And one of
them shows 2 <*> for unread mail - it does has 2 unread messages in it
but the other one that bolded has no unread messages at all. It did
however, have a message in the Outbox (remote).

Is this clearer now?

PF>> # Parked messages/drafts in Outboxes bold them. Icon wrong (old
PF>> "parked" icon and not "draft" icon).

9> Was fixed yesterday

Good.

PF>> # Account Options: IMAP fine-tune "Allow N concurrent connections..."
PF>> text is wrapped and under other text strings.

9> Was fixed some days ago

Good.

PF>> # This is almost certainly known: Old keyboard shortcuts are not
PF>> migrated.

9> And perhaps never be

Ouch! And I cannot print out the ones from the old keyboard shortcut
editor, can I? This will mean I will have to write down the ones I want
to use by hand. Not what I had hoped for but there you go.

PF>> # Does anybody have any idea what the new IMAP option "Auto
PF>> filtering" does?

9> New? ;-)

OK, new since 3.0.1.33 as I have been using that version for a long time
due to problems.

9> Refreshing folder will re-filter not processed messages in
9> background, so you don't need manually select folder with new
9> messages.

Nice.

What about this?

 # I still cannot delete parked messages in local Outbox for IMAP
accounts - they _are_ moved to IMAP remote Trash but aren't removed
 from local Outbox.

Some more:

 # Every time I start TB!, it seems to freeze for a couple of seconds
 - maybe 10 secs the first time and 2 secs the second time. The
third time not problem: related to IMAP filtering (as all messages
had be filtered the third time)?

deleting messages that are "parked" (i.e. drafts) in an Outbox is not
possible. Message are removed from view, but if I move to another
folder and back, they are still there.

If messages are automatically filtered from an outbox to an IMAP
folder, the Outbox folder (local or remote) is not "unbolded" after
the message is sent. In other words, TB! does not know that the
message has be removed from the outbox. If you select the outbox
again, the bolding disappears. For me this is broken with Exchange
and Mailmax. See the thread beginning with
   <mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I cannot delete remote folders or make new folders (using "Manage
IMAP folders"). Any new folder is visible in the webmail application
of my mail provider - but not in the list in TB!. I also cannot
unsubscribe from the folder I previously tried to delete (Mailmax,
have not tried Exchange). The managing of IMAP folders seems
   unstable. Sometimes restarting TB! helps.

Connections hang (Mailmax and Exchange - I have sent 9Val screen
shots). I need to delete the tasks using "Delete" in order to make
TB! work again. See thread beginning with
   <mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Automatically saved drafts sometimes do not "supercede"/overwrite
previous versions of same message (Mailmax, remote outbox) => this is
probably due to the connection problem above: The delete flag not set
   correctly as the connection hangs.

I have had an issue for at least 10 builds where filtering is making
more than one copy in local common folder when filtering incoming
IMAP mail to local common folder. Also, for the virtual folder which
is based on this local common folder, the message count/bolding is
not correct - need to do manual refresh when I have read mail in the
common folder - the virtual folder stay bolded.

There is an issue where the wrong body is sometimes loaded with a
header. I got this when moving from an empty message (just header) to
another full message: the header of the empty message was shown for
the body of the full message. See thread beginning with
   <mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Please add you own findings to this message.

Confirmed as fixed with .20 (local and remote Outbox) - although not too
nicely: If I delete one a message in the outbox (remote or local),
nothing happens, i.e. the message is not removed from the outbox until I
switch to another folder. Then the Outbox "unbolds" and count becomes
"0".

It is. You just need to dig it out from that Customize dialogue.

Another issue is that there is no difference in naming between "Reply"

called "Reply". You need to experiment to find the right one.

Anchors? I don't know what you mean.

I believe it is related to the "hanging connections" issue. Often a task
is Delete Message ID XXX, but that task hangs which means that old
"versions" of the same mail fills up the Outbox. Maybe there are more
hanging tasks with Delete then Save (which puts the version in the
outbox to begin with):

<mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. This is just so
annoying. Could we please have this fixed in the next release?

Another thing:

One thing that puzzles me is why the current version has been dubbed RC1
- I mean Ritlabs introduced a number of new bugs in this beta series in
order to get a new interface, many of which do not - to the average user
- seem related to the new UI (which I guess to a user normally means
stuff like toolsbars, fonts, etc.). Examples: the bug mentioned above,
"references" sorting and so on.

I hold the opinion that a release where the number of bugs do not seem
significantly smaller than in the previous release version (3.0.1.33)
should be postponed until this has changed. Why would people want a new
release with more bugs than the previous one?

I am not saying that changing the interface has no value. It does and a
lot of people like that but isn't functionality/stability the most
important property of an e-mail program?
