importing PGP keys from file

2003-10-18 Thread K Shantanu
Hello,
How do I use The Bat 2.x to import public key from a ascii file pubkey1.asc?
I am using The Bat's default PGP method.

Thanks and great to have a ML for The Bat!
I always had a few doubts and no one to ask.

Mail-Followup-TO header

2004-02-06 Thread K. Shantanu
Hi all,
Can someone please tell me how to use Mail-Followup-TO header in The Bat.
I want The Bat! to respect Mail-Followup-To headers plus I want it to
add Mail-Followup-To headers whenever required.
Please suggest somethings for it.

Thanks a lot and bye.

Customising header is possible only in versions above 2.0. If you have such
version, you can add new header filed in Options | Preferences | Message
Headers. Having defined new field, you can display it in editor window and
 insert there appropriate address.

Yes I have version above 2.0. I went into Options | Preferences |
Message Headers and added an header. A menu box opened where I had to
state 2 things viz,
- name which appears in editor box for that header - I put
  MFT
- rfc822 name where I put - Mail-Followup-To:

But this does not work. I cannot see this field when I compose a new
message. I tried putting just MFT for rfc822 field and then it worked,
but in the mail sent, the header was described as,
MFT: and not Mail-Followup-To:

Can someone solve this?

I still cannot get it down properly. Can you please check it with your

Can you please go through them and tell me what I am missing.

using different smtps

2004-03-11 Thread K Shantanu
Hi,
I have 2 accounts in The Bat! say A and B. They both use different
SMTPs. Now I get a mail on account A and I want to forward it to a
friend but using the identity as B and SMTP of B. I can use the identity
of B using the pull down menu for From: , but how to change SMTPs?
Right now I drag the mail from A's Outbox and put it in B's one and then
send. Is there any easier way for this?

Thanks in advance and bye.
Cheers,

In the message window, go to options|Active Account. If you do this
before you have entered any of your own text into the message,
the footer will change to the one associated with Account B, if there
 is one.

WOW! got it. It works that way.

You could also do this with a QT, and associate it with a key
combination, which would make it even easier.

Can you please explain this. I didn't get any of this at all.
Maybe a small example. What is QT?

Then, while writing the message just type A1 (with surrounding
whitespace) and hit ctrl-space. this should do the same as chosing the
 account from Options/Active account.

Whenever I type Al in account body just the email gets printed there in
message body itself.
Inshort, it acts like an abbrevation and not as macro.

What is the solution to this?

Yes, insert the %Account= macro in all of your templates.

pull down address list.

2004-03-26 Thread K. Shantanu
Hi all,
Being a former Eudora user I miss the below functionality in The Bat! very
much. If I had used several To:/CC:/BCC: addresses like,
[EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED],
[EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] etc, in Eudora when I started
typing sha it would give a pull-down list of all addresses from where I
could choose any one. But The Bat apparently does not do that.
Is there any way I can have this functionality?

Thanks a lot in advance and bye.

spam filtering

2004-10-11 Thread K. Shantanu
Hi,
I am trying the latest version of The Bat! profesional. I have a question
on spam mails. There are a quite a few spam mails I get daily. If I mark
them as Junk, will that ensure I don't get them in future? If possible,
I would like The Bat! to delete them without even downloading them.
Is it possible and if yes how do I go about it?

Thanks.

You need to make TB! use a server side 'Sent' folder. To do this,
go in the account properties and visit the 'Mail Management'
 section.

Enable the 'Sent Mail' option and leave to default folder there
 to 'Sent' on the server.

Thanks Allie, it worked.

IMAP again: deletion

2004-12-05 Thread K. Shantanu
Hi,
I had 2 mails in my Inbox which I retrieved through The Bat!
using IMAP. I read them and then went to webmail to delete
them permanently. I assumed that The Bat! must have kept a
local copy on my disk, but when I clicked on those messages
in The Bat! they vanished. Is this normal? If no, how do I avoid it?

A friend of mine has recently started using The Bat! and has over
50,000 messages in it (most imported from OE). The problem is that it
takes quite a while to close The Bat!. It shows Compressing folders
for more than a couple of mins.
Is there any way to get around this suitation?

Thanks,

 Yes.

Account - Properties - Options - Remove v from Compress folders on
 exit.

Thanks all for the tip. I will indeed remove Compression and see for
speed difference.
Is there any chance with using the compression facility (even a remote
chance) that I might lose data in any case?

It is actually the other way around, if you do not use it the change for file
 corruption increases.

Can someone tell why NOT compressing and purging the data increases
chances of data corruption.
