You'd do the following: a) On the desktop, start the synchronisation panel and run step 1. What this does is create a snapshot of the settings and mail folder structure/content, present in the desktop installation. Copy the file generated during this process to a zip disk. b) On the laptop installation, open the synchronisation panel and select step 2. In this step the laptop installation is compared with that of the desktop using the file on the zip disk. You'll therefore be prompted for this file. Okay, I think I understand that. It will generate another file. This one will contain all the restoration data to update the desktop installation to be like the laptop installation. You'll be asked to enter a file name of your choice for this restoration file etc. And here's where I'm having some trouble. When you're finished, save this new file to a zip disk and go back to the desktop. c) On the desktop, run step 3 in the synchronisation panel. It will ask you for the restoration file that you generated on the laptop in step 2. It will now use the data in that file to update the desktop installation. You're done!! I'll say. And ready for the funny-farm as well. It surely isn't as easy as the sync function for the PDA/desktop. Clear as mud?? :-) Not exactly. :( But you explained it *much* better than the Help file did. I suppose I'm just going to have to do it a few times to get the hang of it, which is a frightening thought for someone who's had the computer problems that I've had recently. It's more complicated than I thought. I was hoping it would be about as dumb-proof as doing a backup/restore. Even *I* was able do that one. :-D I may have to go to plan B, which would be to never use the desktop version of TB! without first synchronizing it with the notebook. On Thu, 3 Jan 2002 11:39:56 -0600, Joe Finocchiaro [JF] graced us with these comments: ... a) On the desktop, start the synchronisation panel and run step 1. Copy the file generated during this process to a zip disk. b) On the laptop installation, open the synchronisation panel and select step 2. You'll be asked to enter a file name of your choice for this restoration file etc. JF And here's where I'm having some trouble. Let's consider for a moment what's being done and then read the steps again. You wish to efficiently make the desktop TB! installation have all the mail, folders, accounts, templates and new settings that the laptop installation has. The laptop installation will have to be the source of the update information. However, it needs to know what is already on the desktop installation so that it will provide only what the desktop needs and nothing more to synchronise it. The file that you generate by running step 1 on the desktop, contains this necessary information. In step 2, the laptop takes the file generated in strep 1, the file containing data about the desktop TB! installation, and analyses it. From this analysis, it will prepare a new file. This 'update' file will contain the necessary data to synchronise the desktop installation to have all that the laptop installation has. Step 3 is just the final synchronisation process. You point the desktop system to the update file which it then uses to update its installation. Analogy of what the steps are like: Allie: Hey Joe, I need to have a desktop system just like yours. However, I already have one and it would be better if I just modified this one as needed, instead of going out and getting a whole new one. Joe: Well, what do you already have in your system? If you tell me this then I can just tell you what you need to do. Allie: (Step1) Ok. I have a PIII 700Mhz with 128MB of RAM on an IWill motherboard. I also have a Sound Blaster Live an NVidia GeForce2 MX video with 32 MB of RAM etc. Joe: (Step 2) Hey, I got your message. All you really need to do is change the motherboard to an Intel model #xxx and upgrade your RAM to 384 MB and you'll be just like me. Allie: (step 3) I got you on that. I went out and got the board, the RAM, and installed them without a hitch. Everything is running fine as you promised it would be. It was really a hardware problem afterall. JF It surely isn't as easy as the sync function for the PDA/desktop. Nope. The PDA sync function is started and completed with the press of a button. :-) Clear as mud?? :-) JF Not exactly. TBUDL List Message Sorting / Filtering Question
Hi, All!! OK... can someone tell me an easy way to manually or thru a filter, move all TBUDL messages to a folder? The other lists I subscribe to have something in the SUBJECT field like [listname] so when I sort my messages by subject, all the messages from each of the lists are together. With them, I can ALT-click on the TO field and grab them all move them. I can't do that with TB list messages, because even the TO field has many different values - the actual value of [EMAIL PROTECTED] is in and does not work when I use it in View / Display / Advanced Filtering / Header / The Recipient's Name, nor is there an option to use the REPLY-TO field for advancd filtering. I vaguely remember asking earlier this year about having the SUBJECT field modification done here and being told that it wasn't going to change. So now, I want to move all the list messages to a specific folder, but I don't want an automatic filter to execute - I want to run it manually - but have not been successful yet. Moving them manually is getting too tiresome. Any help is really appreciated.
