First of all, while reading this message, right click on the body (the text
part) of this message. Click on Smileys, to toggle them off.

Now you no longer see mugs, do you?

Open the file pdfs.msl in Program Files\The Bat\Images\ directory

Change the line

Smiley = .\coffee.gif, 0, (C) (c) :coffee:, coffee

to

Smiley = .\coffee.gif, 0, :coffee:, coffee

and they will be gone. You will now only see coffee mugs if someone puts the
word coffee in a text and puts them between two colons.

As you can see here: :coffee:

Don't see it? Toggle Smileys on!

It looks like you've lost the settings in the Registry... and may have
to recreate them. Do you have a backup of your previous version? If so,
I'd use that and start over... just export your new messages first. If
not, I guess you've got your work cut out...

FWIW, if you create a new common folder, which exists in your mail
folder TB! will pick it up and use it (with a warning message). As for
your address book, I'm not sure but there's no harm trying a few things
out if you backup everything first. Your default address book is
probably TheBat.ABD; try copying your old copy into your mail folder.

However, with e-mail, these misinterpretations are occurring a lot

Basically, I want to *move* the IMAP messages to a local folder and
based on date. For example, anything stored in any of my IMAP folders

So is anyone successfully using filters to do this? Move mails from

So far, we've discovered that the most common cause for this is the
shortcut people are using to launch TB...

Check your shortcut (whichever is being used to launch TB) and make
sure the path to the TB folder is in the Start in box.

If it's not there, TB won't show you any emoticons.

The next is to check Options / Preferences / Viewer and make sure the
box to enable smileys is checked. You will have to restart TB.

Re[2]: v2.11 release installation question

2004-06-03 Thread Jan Rifkinson
Hi Martin, Thanks for replying to my post.

At 7:03 AM on Thursday, June 03, 2004 you MW wrote the following in
response to my question re: v2.11 release installation question:

JR Cleaning up my system, I un-installed the prior TB! version (leaving
JR all data foldes intact), reset my machine installed the new release.

For future reference, install newer versions over the top of the
installed version; there's no need for you to un-install first.

I think I knew that but reasoned that a new release vs a new update
  deserved a clean installation.

In any event, I don't think TB! should make this process -- even
doing it the way I did it, leaving my data folders behind -- as
  complicatd as it is.

It looks like you've lost the settings in the Registry... and may have
to recreate them. Do you have a backup of your previous version?

No here I admit to utter stupidity, given how many years I've been
  around.

To complicate matters, I installed the new version to the old
default folders, re-created my accounts ok, have restored some
common virtual folders ok but am having trouble distinguishing
what is what (old vs new versions) not understanding why TB! would
ignore an existent default AB w/o offering a choice or dialogue of
  some kind.

I'm still trying to clean up this mess.

  Thanks for your help.

Hello All,

Is it possible to set up the Bat! v2 to show .jpgs in the message body
as opposed to using the tabs on the bottom?

Is there documentation anywhere on mail chat, smileys and the other

Hello Ian,

Thank you for the blazing fast reply! Unfortunately, I think I wasn't very specific
as to what I was asking. I just talked a friend into switching over to the Bat! from
Netscape mail and he wants his received messages to show the jpgs in the message body
as opposed to the tabs. Basically, so that he can scroll down the message and see the
text and images together. I know that both Outlook and Netscape mail can do this.
Can the Bat!?

NO as opposed to using the tabs on the bottom?

IAW If you prepare the message as a HTML one, you can do this.

That's were the infomation about the spams is stored. It should get
created by bayesit.

AL How come this file doesn't exist ?

No idea. This is not right. does it really not exist or could it be
corrupted? If it's corrupted you could try to rename it and see if
bayesit creates a new one. Else the only thing I could think of would be
to reinstall bayesit.

By the way, what version of bayesit are you running?

You probably want to change it to:

The only solution I have is to not reply to Leif's messages. :^)

j Weird. In IE 6 or Mozilla 1.6, clicking on the download link next to The Bat!
j 2.11.00 will download the filename the_bat2.11.00.exe. When I click on it in

Problem solved! The culprit is the extension Linky.

Hi

I tired it download NOD32 from the link they gave to me and after two
hours their server still wasn't running. Couldn't even ping it. So, I
went to Grisoft and downloaded the trial version of AVG. Got it
running now - it was easy to set up and, to be honest, I have to
check now and again to see the little icon in my SysTray because
otherwise I wouldn't know it was there ;-)

Thanks to everyone who replied, and to the moderators for not spearing

I know exactly what you mean since I use ThunderBird at work, and no,
TB! will not do this with plain text messages carrying attached pics.

Hitting a tab isn't really more difficult than scrolling so it doesn't
really matter to me either way.

Help! Something ate my mail!

2004-06-03 Thread newsroom
This is the first time I've written to the list, so I hope I'm doing
it right.

I opened The Bat! as usual only to discover that all of the emails for
one account had completely disappeared.

The log for that account looks something like this:

 6/3/2004, 15:11:41: FETCH - receiving mail messages
 6/3/2004, 15:11:43: FETCH - connected to POP3 server
 6/3/2004, 15:11:45: FETCH - authenticated (plain)
 6/3/2004, 15:11:45: FETCH - 193 messages in the mailbox, 17 new
6/3/2004, 15:11:47: FETCH - Received message from [EMAIL PROTECTED], size: 43024
bytes, subject: Mail Delivery (failure [EMAIL PROTECTED])
!6/3/2004, 15:11:47: FETCH - could not store message (file name -
C:\DOCUME~1\BARRYT~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\bat1429.tmp)
6/3/2004, 15:11:48: FETCH - Received message from [EMAIL PROTECTED], size: 42922
bytes, subject: Mail Delivery (failure [EMAIL PROTECTED])
!6/3/2004, 15:11:48: FETCH - could not store message (file name -
C:\DOCUME~1\BARRYT~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\bat142B.tmp)
and so on

I checked C:\DOCUME~1\BARRYT~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\, but I have no idea why
The Bat! could not store the messages or why the earlier messages
disappeared. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I did notice some strange directories in C:\Documents and
Settings\Barry Traver\Local Settings\Temp: _ISTMP1, _ISTMP2, _ISTMP3,
_ISTMP4, and _PA60. (Could they be related to the ISTbar Trojan?)

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

Warm regards,

Barry Traver
