Many thanks for that recommendation. I have been using Smart Sync Pro,
I left it running for 30 hours and it only completed 25% of the

SyncBack did the full 150GB in seven hours, excellent app :-)

S/MIME- und PGP-Tuning

2005-07-20 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all,

after writing in the German list and getting no reply I decided to post
this issue also here... Maybe I have more luck...

I'm looking forward to optimize my S/MIME and PGP configuration.

At the moment I use S/MIME (as you also see in this mail) only for signing
every outgoing mail. I personally like S/MIME for signing better than PGP
because S/MIME signatures are shown as valid or invalid at once in TB. PGP
signatures are shown with a question mark and you first have to start the
external program to verify the signature. Encryption with S/MIME and PGP
also works but I do not use it very often because I think it's unpractical.

I really don't like it that every incoming and outgoing encrypted mail is
stored encrypted in the database. TB also wants the mantra every time I try
to read the mail. Plus the search engine does not find content in the
encrypted mails (which is absolutly clear for me because these mails are
stored encrypted and I have to type in the mantra every time I try to read
the content). So here comes the first question: Is it possible to store
these mails plain in the database? At least I'm using OTFE encryption and I
think this is enough security for my local workstation.

The issue described above is leading us to my second question: Using S/MIME
for encryption I cannot add or remove recipients which can decode the mail
like when using PGP for encryption. So I cannot add myself and I have the
problem that I cannot decode mails I sent using S/MIME for encryption. How
can I add myself so that I can decode mails lying in my sent mail folder?

By the way: Is this the right group for these kind of issues or should I
better address this to the beta group?

Regards,
Martin

I do use that macro, along with a platform version macro.

But, we were discussing what is the current public version displayed
in the TBUDL footers, not what version an individual poster is using.

That is put on by the list software, and Marck is in charge of doing
that. Things have been so confusing on TBBETA lately, with the
information that the developers send Marck changing so rapidly, that
he ended up getting wrong version numbers into the TBUDL footer.

Since a lot of people *do* depend on what the footer says, I wanted
the numbers to match what's on RitLabs' public download page.

And Marck was immensely kind enough to oblige me by making them match
what is shown at http://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/download.php

Ah, I'd lost track of that, I don't envy Marck's task :-(

Might be nice of Ritlabs could offer him some sort of link to the
current release version then he could automate the task.

So, possibly it's an unfixed bug. You think it might be?

You could have a go with the latest, 3.51.6. Might be the function is
working there. Or not.

We're chasing a good many bugs, as beta testers. Might be someone on
the TBBETA list who could help you, who's had this bug.

You are not running settings that I use. That's why I can't confirm

This has always been the way with The Bat! Help File. A completely
revised one is being worked on, but it's a long way from being
offered, even as a beta.

And, ever since v. 3.xx, the FAQ page at Silverstones (link in footers of
TBUDL posts), has not always been an accurate source of information.
Although, it is very good for questions about many functions of The
Bat!

So, I don't even know at what point those functions were introduced
into Folder maintenance.

I do know that from 3.5 on a completely new User Interface has been
put in place, and that in many parts it is a work-in-progress.

A lot more people are going to be familiar with this on TBBETA than on
TBUDL, since most of them participated in the beta run-up to 3.5.

That's why I thought you might have a better chance at help there.

TBUDL and TBBETA (and TBTECH for more advanced problems) are basically
the Help File for The Bat!--and have been for as long as I can
remember. :)
