Importing messages

2005-09-06 Thread z5worg

After I click on Tools | Import Message | From .msg/.eml Files, it takes
about 12-15 seconds before Choose Export Directory pops up. That
seems to be awfully long wait for a 800MHz PC. Am I wrong?

If no, any suggestion to speed up that process?

Yes, this is what I did.

If this is what you did and you still get the error, the message file
is really damaged. Somebody with a hex editor might be able to take a
 look.

zzc Does this mean that the old part001.bin is useless, and messages
zzc can not be recovered?

Not yet. Let's open that file with a screwdriver first and have a look
 inside.

It is mostly text. So I copy and paste it into a new file. There are 2
message. So I manually clean it up and save the as 2 *.msg files.

When you're creating the template, the Edit Template window has an Options tab.

Click that tab abd you will see a check box that says 'Share with other
accounts'.

Check that box and away you go.

Upgraded to 1.62r, DSL Connection Still Not Possible

2005-09-06 Thread jmtb

Hi,

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

I upgraded to 1.62r, which went easily, with all files, sort rules, and
settings coming through intact.

Unforuntately, though, I still cannot make TB connect with ATT DSL service --
no matter how I configure the properties. TLS, apparently, is simply not
interchangeable with SSL, which ATT requires for its DSL connection. I
configured Outlook Express as a control experiment, and it connects, sends and
receives, flawlessly. Yet TB will not, it just sits there, kind of looping
until it times out.

(Sometimes it won't even do that; I try to close the program and it tells me
that tasks are still underway, asks if I want to exit when they're finished,
but gives me no effective way to exit at the moment.)

Is there an SSL capacity in V.3? I understand the file structure is different,
and I would have to go through some kind of conversion, but I am willing to do
that, and would happily pay the new license, if I can get TB to work with ATT's
DSL. (I want to keep ATT as provider because of the massive effort it would
take to change so very manny addresses with various business correspondents,
some quite old.) Would be even worse to find out I still couldn't use TB.

I truly do *not* want to surrender TB, but at this point I have invested, very
literarlly, a great many hours trying to get it to work in this circumstance,
am at the moment brain numbed, and may well -- though I really do not want to
-- have to take the path of least resistance (or accept that I want is simply
impossible) and go to some other email program, a thought that deeply
distressed me.

Again, in this new circumstance, anyone have any suggestions?

(I mean, I am so desperate that I am willing to hire an adept out there,
preferably one of the moderators, to try resolve the situation for me, with me
setting up a separate email account and password with ATT stricly for that
purpose.)

Thanks.

Be well,
Jerry

Yes. Thats often the problem with mailers that are completely unaware of
the sig delimiter function. You cannot create a working sig delimiter in
Outlook (or OE) for example (there's a little patch available to do so,
however). Spaces before a CR are simply stripped by those programs (or
webmailers), you can't do anything about it...

I've changed the order in the tree list but it's always the last

The connection centre won't let me 'delete task' or 'abort all either.

All the accounts are with the same web host (but on different domains

but their status page shows that all is well.

The only way I can shut down TB! is ctrl/alt/del.

 Has anyone seen this before?

Indeed they have! It's what is commonly known as a 'feature' by the Ritlab
writing team
who seem unable to grasp the fact that they need to attend to critical bugs
which risk the
loss of all data. They are perfectly happy tarting things up, designing mobile
phone
graphics and announcing non-existent products. But deal with bugs, useability
problems and
basic requests for actually improving the interface in real ways - that's
entirely beyond
them.

You could try this from Mica:

QUOTE

There is a shorter way to fix this thing. Make a backup (export) of the
Registry entry for The Bat [TB] when the said window functions properly,
and when it get stuck again just delete the current Reg. entry and
activate/merge/import the Registry entry you have backup-ed. It fixes
the nasty thing (providing that you in the meantime have nothing
significantly changed in TB's settings; otherwise these changes will be
lost).

So, since the reason/instruction for TB's behavior is in the Registry
entry, a new installation will not change it, _until_ you have the entry
deleted before the installation.

This behavior else, is an issue with so many versions so I doubt that it
would pay to search for a stable one, as for this detail.

...but it only works for an hour or so for me and it has to be done again. So
I've gone
back to v3.5.25 which is the last 'improvement' version that doesn't behave in
this crappy
way - for me and at least some others.

Interesting. My signature delimiter in Outlook never works. Maybe because I
 send via Exchange server.

Yes. There is a setting in the Exchange server (if I remember
correctly) to strip end-of-line spaces. Apparently it is doesn't
recognize the signature delimiter and NOT remove the single space.

Multiple Mail Server Configurations

2005-09-06 Thread Chris

I am currently using a HP Compaq tc4200 (it's a tablet) as my main
computer. Since I roam, I connect to different networks (two main
ones). I have an e-mail account on each network. On the first network,
their SMTP server only works when I am connected to their network
(because they are too lazy to implement SMTP authentication). When I
am not connected to their network, I have to use the other network's
SMTP server. I remember from a while ago there was a program that
could be configured as a local SMTP server that would forward messages
to different servers depending on location. What was it called?

If an experiment works, something has gone wrong.

SOT: PGP to GPG Migration mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

 SOT = Slightly Off-Topic

Is there any documentation for migrating from PGP to GPG? I need to
use GPG now because I am dual-booting with Linux.

Anyone?

Bug? That's not a bug, that's a feature.
