Marek has quite some influence, so your chances are good. Also, there
are many bugreports, which usually increases the developers'
attention.

The only problem is that it hasn't been assigned to a developer yet.

for a long time I had an installation where the presence of the
BayesIt folder turned out to be the cause of TB! closing again each
time while checking mail. This was true although I wasn't using
BayesIt. As soon as I deleted or renamed the folder all was well, and
whenever it got reinstalled by an MSI operation the problem recurred.

It is no longer happening on that installation, but it would seem to
be worth trying.

Fitness for purpose is the UK legal test - currently TB fails that test.

I have just responded to your other message. Some of us have to sleep

This happens here but it's probably one of the least frustrating bugs
in TB's current IMAP performance. It's probably the same phenomenon
that makes TB so slow at fetching and displaying IMAP messages and
part of the way the protocol is implemented in the prog.

I perhaps should wait longer for replies sometimes! :) This happens to
me when I get my mind set to follow through with a task. This relieves
me somewhat to hear that the delayed closing is not just on my side
but it also gives me *heads up* while I decide if I want to go with
IMAP. I have one other email client that I'm trying IMAP with and it
has no delay after closing. I hope this will improve with TB. Aside
from what I read and hear the IMAP experience is new to me.

 *Question to IMAP users*

How long does it take for you to close TB! with IMAP?

I closely watched the shutting down pane a while ago. I have a number
of old POP accounts where I no longer collect mail, and a large number
of common folders where old mail continues to be archived. As the
shutdown occurred a list of all those folders scrolled thru. That may
have taken about 10 seconds. When it got to the IMAP part it was
virtually done and gone.

With new perspectives here I should probably not query too loud of my
measly 4 second delay on closing with IMAP! :)

I've trimmed down on pack ratting mail and accounts. The mail I have
saved for archiving is not too large. Mailing list email goes to a
separate account in my Agent newsreader along with NG's. Including TB
folder maintenance, I guess that is the best I can do to improve speed
for now.

Not sharing address book templates

2005-12-01 Thread Leonard S. Berkowitz
My wife and I use the same computer and the same instance of TheBat.
It wasn't always this way, but for the obvious reasons, I created a
second account for her.

In most New Message, Reply and Forward templates, for the signature, I
have used the macros %FROMNAME or %FROMFNAME. However, for personal
friends, I have typed my nickname as a literal. Since many of these
friends are mutual friends, when my wife sends and e-mail note or
replies to one or forwards one to one of our friends, the message
includes my nickname that she needs to change manually.

There does not seem to be an option to create a second address book
for her account with different templates. Also, double entries for
these friends with different display names, even if it will do the
job, will be confusing.

So, for those cases where the template uses my nickname, how can my
wife steer clear or have her name or her %FROMFNAME (she has no
nickname that I have discovered during the past 49+ years that I have
known her)?

Thanks.

Aha! The key thing is creating the new message from the address book. It

I had expected that when I put the person's name into the TO field, TB!

Maybe there was no mail check for 10 minutes. There is a particularly
malformed message on your server, and whenever TB tries to download
it, TB will close. Instead of downloading messages, you can also go to
Account / Dispatch Messagees on Server / Unread only. You should be
able to identify a message with a weird header and choose not to
download that. The other messages will download fine now.
