Strange filtering on IMAP account

2005-12-23 Thread Gary Lucas
Greetings, 09:45, Thursday, December 22,
2005

I recently moved from a POP to an IMAP mail server. The setup seemed to go
fairly easy, but my incoming mail filters now behave strangely on the IMAP
account. Sometimes they don't run and I must run then manually. If they are
supposed to mark a message as read, the last message put in a folder is
never marked as read. I upgraded from 3.62 to the latest version, but that
didn't help.

Further, the IMAP message counts are wrong. Currently they show I have 11
unread out of 31 total in the input folder, when in fact 29 have been moved
to other folders and the two remaining have both been read. I've turned off
all synchronization, so that's not it. The count corrects itself if I
compress the folder.

Any ideas?

Re: Installing version 3.64 *PRO* edition

2005-12-23 Thread Roelof Otten
Hallo Perry,

On Thu, 22 Dec 2005 21:54:13 -0500GMT (23-12-2005, 3:54 +0100, where I
live), you wrote:

PN Now, assuming all those things, what do I do next? Can I safely
PN install the Pro edition over the Home edition, without uninstalling
PN the Home edition first? I *do* want to install OTFE when I install the
PN Pro edition.

You can switch to pro without doing anything, you don't even have to
install again, because the executable in both versions is the same,
the pro features are being unleashed by the pro-key, not by the
install file you've used. The only difference between the two
installation files is that the pro file contains the international
pack, while the home version needs that to be downloaded separately.

However, when you want to switch to OTFE (On The Fly Encryption), it's
not that easy. TB cannot encrypt an existing unencrypted message base,
It can only start with OTFE while you're still without message base.
What this means is that in order to switch to OTFE, you need to make a
full TB-style back-up. Afterwards you need to uninstall TB. And
delete/move your message base. (Last time I uninstalled TB left the
message base in it's place, just as I think it should)
Next you install TB. At the end of the install or the start of TB's
first run, it'll ask you about OTFE and you enable that, the password
you're giving then is important, because without that password your
data are lost forever. Amd on the question whether you'd like to
create a new account or restore from backup, you restore from backup.
After restoring from backup you quit TB and restart it (otherwise your
restored preferences won't be loaded).
That's about it.

Oh yes. When you're using TB in multiple user accounts in Windows, you
need to realize that to change another account than you used for the
uninstalling from plain to OTFE you'll need to remove the full
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!
tree from your registry in that account. Because the uninstall routine
only deletes that for the active account during install.
(Yes, actually that means that you don't have to uninstall. Just a
backup and removing both the message base and the proper registry
entries will prompt TB to ask about OTFE too.)

And since I've typed this story for the umptieth time, I'm creating a
QT for it.

Problem with font sizes in signatures

2005-12-23 Thread seclists
Hello,

Something in my setup causes any HTML email to override the preferences
settings and cause the signature (or any text) to Courier New 9 even though my
default settings are for courier new 10. If I change the font it is always in
size 9. If I change the style to normal it resets to size 10 correctly. It
occurs with our without the -- designation. If I remove all text from the
template then it correctly sizes the font.

The only macros are %bcc and %cursor

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gray

Shortcuts all messed up and how to do

2005-12-23 Thread Aubrey
Dear Bats

Yikes. I just installed the Christmas Edition
following an advertisting email from Ritlabs.

No all my dozens of carefully crafted shortcuts are gone.
Having gone carefully through messages on the list
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get
them back. I can get into the customize box, but
what then

Someone please run me through a sequence of events
that will get (as a case example) a shortcut (say
Shift-Control-1 to assign a predefined color group
to a message).

Alternatively how do I get back to where I was
before.

What a mess, and the helpfile bears no relation to
reality.

And even the shortcuts that I seem to be able to
assign don't work (so if I assign control R to
mark a message Read, it still opens the message
for a reply despite altering the apparent shortcut
stated on the right click menu (and even after
removing the shortcut from the previously
designated ^R).

Wish I hadn't installed this. My previous version
3.01 was wonderful and stable. Now I have hours of
disaster on my hands.

Line wrapping in plain text (Windows) editor

2005-12-23 Thread Luca

I can't understand how the Windows-like editor works, as far as line wrapping
is concerned.

In my viewer/editor|editor preferences dialog box, it says:

 General (common for all editors)

 Wrap text at 72 characters

But if I write a message using the Windows-like editor, lines wrappings get
lost as soon as I save the message. Then, recipients get a message with lines
as long as the whole paragraph.

Help file doesn't help. Can't find faqs or bug reports about this.

(Christmas Edition)

Tnx.

As noted in my message a moment ago, I have successfully installed the
Pro version of The Bat! v3.64.01, but now the AVG7 (free) plug-in is
not installed. I am able to locate where it should be under Options /
Preferences / Plug-ins, but when I choose Add there are no plug-ins
listed under The Bat! nor under the AVG7 folder.

I have searched my computer for *.tbp and find only the Bayesit.tbp
file in The Bat! folder. I presume that when I un-installed The Bat! in
order to get the OTFE I also un-installed the AVG7 plug-in.

Can someone please direct me to the location where I can download that
plugin? I have already looked on http://www.ritlabs.com and on
  http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 without success.

  Thank you.

TB!'s original editor was microEd. It does no virtual wrapping of text.
As MicroEd wraps text, it's hard wrapped. You'll see what I mean if
after typing a few lines of text with MicroEd, you copy paste it to
notepad and then toggle NotePads line wrapping on and off.

Because of MicroEd's ability, TB! never did have a wrap on send feature.
The Windows editor, like most other editors for Windows, virtual wraps
as you edit, using the specified character limit in the options. If you
copy a few lines of text you've typed in the Windows editor and paste it
in NotePad, you'll note that the text isn't *really* wrapped. So, on
sending, the text is sent formatted as is, i.e., with no wrapping.

That means that TB's Windows-like editor is useless, plain and simple. If
there is no way to send messages with correct line wrapping, one can't use it,
and I can't see any point in putting it in.

I myself got used to MicroEd, with time, but a friend of mine, coming from
Outlook, of course he can't bear alt+l, nor the auto-format feature the way it
works in MicroEd. He *needs* a Windows-like text editor, and I myself would
like a lot to get rid of alt+l.

If a way to put hard returns in the right place before sending can't be found,
with the Windows-like editor, then I'd say that TB has three editors but none
of them is completely usable.

Depends on perspective I guess. Though my sentiments are as yours, there
are those who believe sent lines should not be wrapped. In this way, the
recipient can view the lines whichever way he wishes. In fact, there's a
new RFC that tries to address this issue of line wrapping that works for
all, i.e., sender and recipient.

I myself got used to MicroEd, with time, but a friend of mine, coming from
Outlook, of course he can't bear alt+l, nor the auto-format feature the way it

Unlike the Windows editor that handles like 'standard' Windows editors,
it doesn't really work. However, MicroEd *works*, but has an unfamiliar
handle to it. What made me grow accustomed to MicroEds quirky handling
was the fact it works extremely well for e-mail formatting. You can
trust that what you see in front of you is what the recipient will get.

If a way to put hard returns in the right place before sending can't
be found, with the Windows-like editor, then I'd say that TB has three
editors but none of them is completely usable.

The only way to do that is manually, sort of like in the old days of
mechanical type writers. You don't have a 'ching' sound to give you the
cue, but you could use set the Window width to the desired line length.

Thanks for the reply, Ben, but that doesn't seem to be my problem.

As the subject says, the AVG plug-in was there before I upgraded but
it isn't there now. When I try to use the file Marek suggested, I get
a message that says, Could not initialize the plug-in. It either has
some internal problems or it cannot be qualified as a plug-in.

This error occurs when I try to type avgbat.bav into the window that
seems to be looking for a *.tbp file (and apparently only a *.tbp
file) from the Options / Preferences / Plug-ins / Add screen. So
although I have the file that is supposed to be the AVG plug-in file,
this newest version doesn't like it and won't accept it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

It's the only spam solution you will ever need. The developers are
very responsive to feature requests as well. You can use it for free,
or give 'em $12 a year if you like them; the core functionality is the
same and only a larger spam cache if you pay.

I use PopFile also, but only for giving hints to TB for which folder
various pieces of mail should go to.

K9 worked good for me when I used it. I now have all my mail filtered
through barracuda network servers. If at all possible by you it seems
the ideal way to deal with spam is from the server. But I know this
isnt always an option.
I have also been testing out AGAVA for the bat with my other email
accounts. Its working out pretty good.

Perhaps that can be remedied next year.

It is already included in the new help file - under the heading
Roguemoticons and PCWSmileys. I found it by doing a search for
 emoticons.

Thank you so very much. I am greatly relieved, as I did feel that it
should have been included--I saw it in the draft that was made
available to the TBBETA list last spring.

:thankyou:

Hmmm, a search on Smileys did not work. Well at least it is there, I
guess it just needs to add Smiley to the search list.

Probably a simple change in the text, making Smileys a stand-alone
word would do it. One of us can bring it up on TBBETA in January. :)
