BM what it is intended to accomplish other than to boost the size of the
BM message? I promised my B-I-L that I would ask the question for him.

Because you told it to!

This is a MIME forward aka Alternative forwarding. In this mode, TB
deliberately attaches a complete copy of the original email. This is
also the way AOL users forward messages. TB's difference is that it
attaches the copied email to a normal forward of the message. This is
less explainable. I can understand an overview of the text in the
covering message for the forward, but a complete content copy plus
images plus attachments? Very odd.

Of course, if you're not using MIME forwarding yourself, then you got
the original message *from* an AOL user and merely formatted what
you'd received. ;-)

TB and bitdefender AV Anti Spam

2006-01-29 Thread WilWilWil
Hello,

I just installed Bitdefender Internet Security with AntiVirus, AntiSpam,
Firewall and antiSpyware.

Have you got some experiences with Bitdefender and TB ? It seem to well
detected spam but does not move these mails in Junk Folder as BayesIt did...
Same thing for antivirus : virus are detected but not moved to quarantine
folder

An other strange thing : since Bitdefender is installed, after each checking of
new mails, I've got this message below :

!29/01/2006, 11:10:37: FETCH - Connection to host broken (last commands sent
were: STAT, QUIT)

What does it mean ? Is it an error ? Is it bad for my TB ? (it seems that I
received my mails despite this problem of messages

Thanks for your help.

That depends on your Forward template. If you have a nearly blank one
(i.e. just with %Cursor macro) you will only send the attachment plus
whatever you type.

Only those programs that come with a plugin for TB can move spam and virus
messages directly in TB.

BD seems to be a local proxy that somehow marks the messages. You have to
build your own filters in TB to move the messages.

That said, I'd configure the antivirus program to throw away virus infected
messages immediately. Its really useless to download quarantine them in a
local folder.

At first things seemed Ok except for a small though discernible system
performance hit. I had no problems with TB!, since I was not using the
BitDefender e-mail proxy. I, however, did get BlueScreens a couple of
times, secondary to BitDefender having problems with a recent XP update.
A fix was subsequently released. I also got some funny software
interactions with BitDefender. I got concerned running it further and
soon abandoned.

NOD32 and now AVG have been the best in terms of just running as though
they aren't really there. They never seem to cause any issues with the
system. Both have TB! plug-ins too.

Changed the host server name from humbug.free-online.net to

Glad to hear it was something minor. I was thinking they'd upgraded
MySQL to 1.39Gamma or higher which changed the password hashing
function and causes all sorts of issues with PHP versions less than
5.0 without using the MySQL oldpassword function. I've got some of
those cases at work and it's always a hassle but I can't upgrade the
PHP version on that one particular server.

That one has bum-bitten me s many times. I run PHP 5 and MySQL

it chokes for exactly that reason. But now we're veering OT. I'm gonna
end up moderating myself!! (replies - if we're not done - to TBOT

Do mothers use this program? I'm 70 and one of
the few using it on some very large mailing lists.
Neither young nor old seem to consider the
program, many never heard of it, those who have,
have no interest. I thought all the senior
mothers/grandmothers/great-grandmothers were using
OE, Netscape and Thunderbird.

G'day Marck,

question:

BM Anyone got any idea why The Bat! is sending the extra eml file, and

 Because you told it to!

I got an indignant (tongue-in-cheek) response from my brother-in-law
when I sent him a copy of your reply.

*No I didn't!*

As a test he had set up a new account on The Bat! and it defaulted to
the setting forward messages as attachments (MIME standard) with no
user intervention. He then did a clean install on another computer -
set up a new account and once again it defaulted to that setting. (In
both cases the accounts were IMAP.)

He obviously has too much time on his hands being able to do all this
experimenting ;-) .

On looking at my own installation I find that all six POP accounts
have the setting unticked, while my one IMAP account has it ticked. It
would appear that The Bat! applies different settings depending on
whether the account is POP or IMAP.

Not a problem as we now know why it was forwarding the eml attachment
and how to prevent it (if desired), but thought I would pass this on
to add to the store of knowledge

Confirmed. I'm sure I never ticked forwarding that way for my IMAP
account, and it hasn't been set that way for my POP accounts.
