Wish: Option to 'Exclude Signature' when searching in 'Text'

2008-02-11 Thread MAU
Hello all,

I have just sent this message to TBBeta. I intended to CC this list but
forgot:

I was doing some searches today and was actually 'appalled' by the
number of messages found that didn't seem to have any relationship with
what I was looking for. I was 'appalled' to the point that I was about
to open a BT report on version 4.0.12.2. But I reverted to version
3.99.29 and got the same result. And it was then when I realised that
many of the found messages were so because the keyword I was using (for
example MyGate) appeared in the signature of many posters.

This is why I think that it would be useful to have an 'Exclude
Signature' option that, when searching in Text, would stop the search at
signature delimiter dashdashspace.

Hello Alto,

Every one of those points has been reported to the betea list once or
more often. None of them was ever acknowledged or reported to be
worked on. Many are still unresolved in v4.

How many of those did you report in BT (Bug Tracker). If you did, it
would be good if you post the links to them.

Hello Gerard,

I was pleased to see the inclusion of TNEF support for those nasty
 winmail.dat files.

I just installed 4.0.11 and sailed to a folder full of these
attachments only to find I still cant do anything with them in TB. As
ussual the help file or the website don't provide a clue on how to
 use/activate.

Anyone here that figured it out?

You don't need to do anything. Although the winmail.dat is still shown
as an attachment, its contents is displayed in the message pane. You
can verify that if you open the winmail.dat attachment with Winmail
Opener (http://www.eolsoft.com/freeware/winmail_opener/)

PINs seems to be about high security - I'm sure with all the
holes in my setup, a really interested person could find out
whatever they want in a heartbeat. What I would like is just to
keep the great jumble of passwords and codes in one place where I
can find the right one when I need it, that is why I was using a
folder in TB! named passwords and registrations. When a company
would send me my password and registration details by email, off
to that folder it would go. Probably not a really secure way of
operating, but I've come to believe that there is no secure.

Have encountered this occasionally. Not really a show stopper to me.

IMAP: Folders duplicate. In v3-versions I've just been seeing
Trash.1 (sometimes it is deletable, sometimes it isn't), in v4
other folders duplicate with the exact same name (Outlook created a
folder named Junk, TheBat copied it four times already (deletable)

Have not encountered this in a very long time.

IMAP: Unable to manage folders. Right-click on folder: Mark as read
and Empty are greyed out. Switch back and forth between this and
other folders, eventually the options will be available.

Not seeing this today, never seen it before. Mark as read not
available when folder is empty.

IMAP: Folder shows now messages (in message list), but still count is
non zero. Select Mark all read (folder right-click context menu),
 usually the count will zero.

I guess you mean 'no messages.' This is the most pervasive flaw in
TB! IMAP

Startup: Crash with AV. New since v4, only got it when updating from
v3 (last release) to v4, but then multiple times in a row. Haven't
 seen it since, though.

Don't recall experiencing this.

Startup: Logo staying on for a long time (half a minute). Haven't
checked yet if /nologo still works.

Never timed it but it never seemed so long. Not an IMAP issue.

Update: Not working at least for v4. I remember I was once alerted to
a new version during v3 betas, but never before that nor ever again
after it. Chose Check for Updates with v4.0.7 (v4.0.12 on the
download page and announced in the forum), result You are already
 using the latest version.

Since have been running betas, have no idea when they used this last.
Certainly not to be expected that it would be used for new beta
versions.

Mail check: Check will cease after some time, new messages will no
longer be announced nor displayed, even on manual folder change.
Restart required to get it working again. (Observed with last v3
 release, not yet with v4)

Long time since I was running version 3, so no comment. History now
anyway.
