Folder deletion and restoration

2008-06-11 Thread Jon Polish
Hi:

I have deleted several folder from my message base but chose the
option to Keep the message base files intact. I want some of these
back in my folder structure, but cannot find a way to accomplish this.
SHIFT+ALT+CTRL+L does not accomplish this. I am sure it is something
obvious that I am overlooking.

Thank you.

Re: Problem with Spam Filter

Well, you do that with selective download filters, those download the
message headers and can kill the message from server before the full
message will be downloaded.
However, I've never used them myself as they lengthen the download
time substantially, because the message headers will be downloaded
twice, once to compare them with the selective download filters and
a second time when the complete message is downloaded. With my message
mix (lots of short messages) that isn't worth the trouble.
Furthermore I don't kill on arrival and that's the only useful action
for selective download filters.

Fair enough. If someone had a dial up Internet connection and had lots
of big spam messages come through, it sounds like this approach might
be tailor made for them.

'Delete the message', that's the action listed right above 'Delete
from server'
My server does my spam marking, it adds a spam header and I've set TB
to move those messages to a spam folder and mark them as read (you
know that you can set multiple actions to a single filter, don't you)
so I won't see it unless I'm browsing my spam folder to check for
false spam marks. So that could be an option for you too.

Thanks - most of my spam is unknown, but this particular address is
nothing but, so I can safely set it to 'delete the message'. I can use
the other approach for the spam (unknown) filter though.

The blank lie isn't necessary, but it's supposed to consist of dash
dash space on a single line, but as you aren't using TB on the list I
can't comment on how to achieve that.

Thanks - I'm using Agent via gmane. I've updated the signature block
in the Agent options.

Yes.

Cool - I think different programs must adhere to a different standard.
I've seen newsreader programs which work fine with the '--' (without
space), but The Bat needs the space by the looks of it. Oh well, no
problem.

Strange things with TB

2008-06-11 Thread jlaikan
I still use the Bat V1.53 which works well. Yesterday something
strange happened.
1) Old messages in the Outbox were suddenly sent (with no action from
me) to the recipients in several copies, with a copy to myself.

2) No messages in Inbox, Outbox or Sent can be deleted even if I
unparked the messages.

3) Each message I send are sent several times as it stays in the
Outbox even when sent.

4) On despatching messages from the server, I cannot delete messages
even if they are ticked for deletion

5) A copy of emails I send are no longer stored in the Sent folder

Any explanation for all these? Thanks

John

Lost folders

2008-06-11 Thread Jack
Hello,

I was trying to move a sub-folder out of the folder it was in into
another folder. I was doing this by clicking on the sub-folder and
then using the CTRL + arrow key to move it. It turns out there is a
bug with this version of TB so that when the folder being moved
reaches its parent folder, the selected item gets switched to the
parent folder and that folder gets moved. So instead of moving a
sub-folder, the whole main folder gets moved.

I didn't realize this had happened and when I saw the sub-folder
hadn't moved, I tried it again, not realizing it was in a different
location already. The same thing happened but now the main folder was
buried in a different folder, due to having done it twice. The end
result is that the original main folder that should not have been
changed at all had disappeared.

If I look at the actual disk structure, using a file manager, I can
see the missing folder but it doesn't show up in TB. I tried using
SHIFT+CTRL_ALT_L but it said nothing found. I tried creating a new
folder and copied all of the files from the missing folder to it (using a
file manager) but that new folder was still empty. I tried deleting
the TBI file for it but the sub-folders would still not appear. I
contacted TB support and was told if SHIFT+CTRL_ALT_L doesn't work I
must be doing something wrong, so there's no help there.

It was suggested that I add a new folder, create a sub-folder and then
use the message import menu item to read in the messages from the lost
folders. That worked. I had went through about 20 of the lost 200 or
so sub-folders when I thought I should restart TB to make sure the
messages were being read correctly. When I did that, the new folder
was no longer present.

I restored TB's directory to a different location from a daily disk
backup I do and then copied over the missing folder and its contents.
Still didn't show up. It appears there is a main index file that has
become corrupted.

What a mess! So the bottom line is that I have a missing folder with
thousands of messages that I use for my bossiness that I can't get to.
Please tell me there is a way to fix this.

Using 4.0.2

I hope it is that easy but please don't shoot the messenger if it

Not at all. I'm desperate and appreciate any help I can get. :) The
folder is buried in another. I can see it by looking at the disk
structure. However, I can't see it from within TB. And if I try to
create a new folder with the same name as the missing one, a popup
says that the name is already in use. I've found that if I added the
missing sub-folders and then copy the TB files, instead of importing
them, that the new folder will be remembered. So I can use this
method, even though it will take, almost, forever. But when I am done,
I'm not sure if I can just rename it to the original. It might end up
deleting the contents and I'll have to start over.

The first thing that comes to mind would be some interaction with your
virus scanner.
Shut down your virus scanner (if you're using any)
Purge and compress all folders, I'm a bit rusty on 1.53, so I don't
know whether you can select this for all folders (from the folder
menu) or only on a per folder base.
See whether this helps.

Thank you Roelof, but that is what I was doing. TB reports 0 lost

Wildcards in URL Manager / Block whole domain

I'm trying to block any host in imageshack.us as it's the source for
most of the tracking images (and other semi-decent imagery) in my spam

does it?

You might try and create a new folder with the old name. Either TB!
recognizes the message base after a new start, or you must replace the
new folder's TBB and TBI files with the old ones.

IMAP (was The Bat! in server mode?)

2008-06-11 Thread NickOhare
Hi All,

Firstly I would like to thank all the people who responded to my
original query.

Looks as though in order to set up a networked multi-user TB!
configuration I going to have to use IMAP. I've already done the
research for the server side, but now I need information for the
client side.

Can I still use TB! as the client. I've been a TB! user since version
1.x (maybe early 2.x) and consider it the best POP client available,
but I do remember a few threads on this list years ago discussing its
IMAP limitations. And when I say a few years ago it may of been 4 or
5 years ago. Has Ritlabs dealt with these issues? I would rather not
recommend switching over to another client.

Hi Roelof,

Thank you for your reply.
I would prefer not to purge my emails by date as there may be some important
ones. I prefer to delete them individually, but they can't. I am also
getting out of memory or out of bounds messages.

Does V4 have a bigger database for messages (inbox). If so itwould be
simpler for me to upgrade delete the messages after.
