Protocol logging and date

2009-07-04 Thread Privateofcourse
Hello TBUDL,

Is there any way to enable the date in the protocol logging logs? The time
 is displayed but no date.

Sorry, my bad.

1.) Here is a message that looks beautiful in 4.0.28 but is gooledigook in
both 4.1.11 and 4.2.6:

http://www.tf-web.gmxhome.de/TheBat/LogisticsDigest.EML

2.) This one is note readible in 4.1.11 but good in 4.2.6:

3.) This one reads good in 4.1.11 and 4.2.6, even though it has the
same charset windows-874 as message 3.:

http://www.tf-web.gmxhome.de/TheBat/splendid.eml

Of course, the different TB! versions are on different computers
(office, home, uni), and I don't have all email on every computer, and
I keep forgetting to MIME-forward them. That's why I don't have a
report for every mail for every version.

None of the computers have Viewer Profiles set up. I tried that, but
it didn't help.

None of the computers has the XLAT table for TIS-620, but it displays
well in 4.0.28 and 4.2.6 (why not in 4.1.11?)

Problem is that the first message (and other messages alike) do not
display correctly above 4.0.28. Is there a way to downgrade?

Not that I'm aware of.

P The time is displayed but no date.

The contents of the sent or received messages might give you some idea
of the date of the transaction. The protocol log is intended for
problem hunting, not for keeping permanent stats.

I don't know about your set-up, but in my situation I would try
this:

1) Add a new Virtual Folder and configure it to contain _all_
messages in your database.

2) Export all messages from this Virtual Folder into 1 big Unix
message file.

3) Delete all messages from Virtual Folder.

4) Install TB! version 4.0.xx over 4.2.x.

5) Import Unix file into the Inbox of re-installed 4.0.x

6) Refilter the Inbox manually, to return all messages to their
folders.

You should make a back-up before, and your mileage may vary, but to
me this seems to be the best method to avoid compatibility
problems.

Bingo! Somewhere along the way whilst trying to get this to work I had tried
doing it via an address book template - which I couldn't get to work - and then
promptly forgot about it. Once I deleted the address book template, the common
folder one worked.

Which is the recommended/best way to set these up for things like mailing
lists? Is it better to use a folder template or an address book template or
does it make no difference as long as you only use one?

P.S How can I make my sig darker/more readable? I can't find anywhere within
template set ups to change the font size/colour.

My personal preference is address book templates, that's how I
configured my mailing lists. I placed my mailing lists in AB groups
and configured AB group templates, that way it's easy to use the same
template for 'related' lists.

AdG I don't know about your set-up, but in my situation I would try
AdG this:

Thanks for your idea, but it seems a bit unfeasable:

AdG 1) Add a new Virtual Folder and configure it to contain _all_

That would be a very big VF, with mails from 13 accoutns and over 100
folders.

AdG 2) Export all messages from this Virtual Folder into 1 big Unix
AdG message file.

That would be several GB big.

AdG 3) Delete all messages from Virtual Folder.

AdG 4) Install TB! version 4.0.xx over 4.2.x.

AdG 5) Import Unix file into the Inbox of re-installed 4.0.x

AdG 6) Refilter the Inbox manually, to return all messages to their

That would be hours worth of manual work.

AdG me this seems to be the best method to avoid compatibility

Have you tried the messages? Which TB! version are you using, and how
do they display on your side?

Well, for starters, I'm not using protocol logging for keeping permanent
stats. I'm actually using it for it's intended purpose, 'problem hunting'.
As I've been monitoring a problem POP3 mailbox for the last week, due to
intermittent 10060 errors, I wanted to be able to identify the date and time
of the errors so that the hosting company could check their own logs. And as
I've left TB! up and running for this purpose, it would have been good to be
able to differentiate between days.

There is not really any good reason not to add the date as well as the time
to the logging.

This is what you said on Sat, 27 Jun 2009 13:36:10 -0400 your time:

My hosting service reports no problems after I enquired.

 This arrived on the list

Thanks.

After more problems I opted to move my domain elsewhere, and not it's hosted
in a different part of the world to where it was. Unfortunately, I'm still
having problems.

I'm recieving mail from the list but mail I send isn't getting to the list.
Of course if this gets to the list it'll be luck.

Think I'll have to email Marck.
