PB Before you tear your hair out, if you want to live dangerously, you
PB might use Revo to do the full uninstall. From
PB http://www.snapfiles.com/get/revouninstaller.html

PB During the uninstall, you may get a pop-up from TheBat to interfere
PB with the uninstall - just ignore and let Revo finish the job.

Thank you Paul. Actually I've used Revo for years and never had a
problem with it.

Further experimentation leads me to believe that the
firewall/anti-virus has nothing to do with the problems I'm having so
I doubt I'll replace them with AVG for now.

Hello TBUDLs,

I've sent an email to RIT Labs this morning outlining the two major
problems expressed in this thread. I'll keep the list posted as soon
as I hear from them.

Hello TBUDLs,

I've received a response from RIT Labs which suggests that the problem
with the key block is that I'm using the wrong key block. They will
re-send the original keyblock for the name and email address I
provided them in the return email I just sent. No mention was made as
to why the first 56 characters of the (apparently wrong) keyblock
appear before I even get a chance to paste in the entire (again,
apparently wrong) keyblock.

Their solution for the message-display-delay was to download and
install v6.0.12 which supposedly will accept the original 5.2
keyblock. I assume they're referring to the one they send me.

I am seriously considering buying an authorized copy ($99 from Newegg)
of Windows 7 and trashing Windows 8 on this new machine. I will
contact ASUS tech support to see if the machine will even let me do
that.

Stay tuned.

Doesn't Microsoft have a semi-official way to upgrade from 8 to 7,
like they did a few years ago for those who wanted to upgrade from
Vista to XP?

What with all the bad press Win 8's been getting I guess that would be
an upgrade. I'm not aware of any offer like that but it certainly
would shine MS's image if they were to offer something like that. On
the other hand, I wonder how many copies of Win 7 Egghead and others
sell (which profits Microsoft)?

I've yet to hear back from RIT Labs on the code block they were
supposed to send since I supplied them with the name and email address
of the original purchaser. If a new code block works and upgrading to
v6.0.12 clears up the display-delay problem, I will probably continue
to plow through the other problems Win 8 has created with other
software (KeePass, so far). But it won't take much for me to place my
order with EggHead. I'm really tired of all this pee-pee-caca.
