Hello to the list from French Saint Martin

2008-03-25 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hello to the list. This is my first, so please excuse what may seem
silly questions.

I have joined the TBBeta list just to watch at this stage, because I
think TB has more potential than all the other mail clients put
together.

So how do I get maximum use from this enormous program? Is there a
tutorial on macros and a comprehensive listing of
variables used in templates? e.g. v%THEBATVERSION. or variable
that gives your long/lat and location, CPU.

Hope to be able to contribute something useful to the list once I get to
know a few more things.

My ultimate goal with TB is to manage incoming and outgoing mail with
canned responses parsing variables to it, thus maximizing automation.
If someone has written a tutorial on this, or even another website,
I would sure appreciate the url.

Has SMTP with Gmail been resolved yet? It just sits there when I try.
SO for the time being I will keep POP with Gmail using the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] domain.

can not confirm, quoted text is not spelled here in 4.0.18.6.

You add the following text to the template file you use for sending
 messages to the list.

Also, don't forget the sigdash (i.e. two dashes followed by a space
as in -- (without the quotes)) otherwise fish comes your way. This

IAW These are covered by the Macros section in the help. The quoting of
IAW the poster's initials (or what The Bat! works them out to be from the
IAW From address is set in the Account|Properties Template|Reply Sender
IAW information used for quoting.

IAW By the way I see you do have two dashes for your signature, however
IAW you are missing the space at the end of it, so The Bat! does not
IAW consider that a sigdash.

 Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where the location of the anti-virus plugins in The
Bat is? I have an errant plugin (Generic DLL Plugin) listed in
Options-AntiVirus (with a status of 'error') and I want to get rid of
it if it isn't for an anti-virus I currently have installed. Problem
is, I can't tell which AV it belongs to. If there is a setting in the
registry or something that says C:\Program Files\AVG or something, I
will be able to tell which AV it belongs to, and whether I can delete
 it or not.

Re: Voyager usage problems

2006-12-26 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hello Alexander,

On Tue, 26 Dec 2006 you wrote in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

ASK 1. you can't send with Voyager and
ASK 2. your dad can't connect using OE.

ASK Is that correct?

Indeed it is. I used to be able to send with no problems but the last
two times I've been up (and since he upgraded his McAfee) I haven't been
able to connect, even though I put all the usual SMTP settings in for my
Voyager, and then there's something that completely screws up MacAfee so
that Spamkiller doesn't work. On going to the internet chat forums I
found out that it's the Spamkiller programme that doesn't actually load
and using Voyager causes that. I've now completely removed it but still
can't send myself using Voyager.

ASK If the McAfee spam killer works as a local proxy and automatically
ASK adjusts the configuration, the entries in OE would be correct
ASK (using localhost as the server).

Yes, it does work if I manually install Spamkiller but that's beyond my
Dad so that's why I've removed it.

ASK As it looks now, the McAfee spam filter is not working, and OE
ASK can't connect to the local proxy.

Indeed, that's what turned out to be the problem.

ASK a) the personal firewall (McAfee it seems) is set to something like
ASK high security and blocks every SMTP connection attempt to outside
ASK hosts that are not explicitely configured as allowed - you have to
ASK check the configuration of the McAfee firewall in that case

The first time I use Voyager McAfee asks for permission to allow it. The
firewall itself is set to normal security.

ASK b) the provider of your dad blocks SMTP connections to foreign SMTP
ASK servers and people must relay all messages thru their own SMTP server

I suppose that's a possibiliy although he's using BT in the UK and I
think they'd allow that sort of thing. At the moment I'll just have to
content myself with being able to read mails but having to send using
Mail2Web.

Voyager usage problems

2006-12-25 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hello,

I'm using Voyager up at my Dad's house and am having problems. Whatever
I set I can't send, only receive. I have to send via Mail2web. My Dad's
PC has McAfee security centre and he gets the following message now when
he tries to use Outlook Express for his messages:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'localhost', Server:
'127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I've had a look at the McAfee centre but can't adjust the settings for
SpamKiller which is, according to various mailing lists, the trouble
maker. Anyone know a solution?

i wonder if there is a macro that will fill up automatically the header

for example, this text body consist of a 'subject'. so when i fill in the

with the same.

it could be that once this macro is inserted, it functions only when i
queue it to send, but this is no problem as long as it works.

The Bat! hangs on startup

2005-07-13 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Greetings.

This morning, when I opened The Bat!, the application (3.5.30) hung and
refused to load. CPU usage shot to 100% and maxed out the available RAM on
my Sony Vaio P3-1.3/256 MB running WinXP Home SP2.

I have not installed any new software since running the Bat yesterday
evening. I've reinstalled, done a system restore (just in case), done a
repair installation on 3.5.30, removed the TBI files to prompt an email
index rebuild, and rebooted multiple times.

After reading an earlier message where similar problems were resolved by
updating, I updated to The Bat 3.5.31 beta.

I am still having the same problem. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you.

I cannot digit a smiley, the keys that used to be semicolon are now

I think I changed somehow the language of the keyboard, by only in the

Someone please has some hint for me.

I would like to put a smiley just here, but as you know, my keyboard
does not allow me to do it

I am using the Bat version 1.62i, with a Windows XP Professional 2002, Service Pack 1,

Re: Automatic backups?

2002-07-19 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dear Britt,

But it happens so that I know that one of the bat-dealers has made a
program called EmailAlarm, and it has several purposes.

1) It can generate an e-mail whenever you want and sent it to whomever
you want at the time specified by you.

2) Make a PopUp Windows reminder.

3) Start a program at a certain time.

The program is shareware.

The same dealer has made a backup program for The Bat!, but I haven't
used it myself, because at the time I couldn't make it work with
SecureBat! It is freeware now.

Go to http://www.macasoft.hu/ and look for the English pages.

I assume this isn't official Ritlabs material as it would be on their own
site?

Does anyone use any of these products or have had experience of them?

What are the *real* benefits over TB! as it stands?

Thanks,

Chris.

Re: folder contents lost - please help...

2001-02-07 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

(reposted from off-list correspondance by Marck)

rxn I want my old mail back! ;-)

rxn One gotcha I can think of; I was using bat 1.3? when I last
rxn accessed those mail-folders...

rxn Any clues?

Big one. At 1.42 the mailbox file format changed and the file
extension were also changed at the same time. You can use the Tools ..
Import to import from the old .MSB format files.

 HTH.

Thank you also for pointing out that import feature. However, if I'm
to manually import all .msb files from all my folders, I will be very
dissapointed. I have over 60 of them, and the clicking would take me
too much time.

Is there any way to automate this? I can write a simple script that
creates a file in which I sequentially put the contents of all .MSB
files in the folder-tree.. If that ensures that I *only* lose
folder-information (and possibly my attachments), then that will do.

Can I string those MSBs together?

Re: Problem sending/receiving large attachemnts...

2000-02-07 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Mark,

All I can say is that I've had the same exact problem. On messages
larger than 2.5 MB, I don't just get the hanging, but a
reboot-required crash 100% of the time.

I'd submit a bug report to RITLABS so they can know others have the
problem, and they can address it in the next version, hopefully.

unresponsive until it has finished its task.

Ever thought of trying Gravity?

There are only two programs that I have downloaded that have prompted
me to send any money off. Bat! being one and Gravity news reader the
other.

In fact it was in a news group discussion about Gravity that I was
recommended to the Bat! I said if I could find an e-mail program as
good as Gravity is a news reader I could do away with Outlook Express
altogether.

Try Xnews: http://xnews.3dnews.net/

You don't even have to plunk any money down at all. It's free. But I
liked it so much that I sent the writer a Borders Gift Certificate.
It's got scoring, filtering, smart binary downloads, you name it.

I like to put my Best Regards before the --, but what I consider a
"sig" after the --.
The reason is, I consider my Signature, or closing, to be part of the
letter. When I write a business letter, I may have a footer with our
address or whatever else, but that's not where I put my closing. I
treat email the same way, a sig (by email definations) is more of a
"footer" and shouldn't include the closing.

Comments?

Re: Wish list from a new user of The Bat

2000-01-07 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Great suggestions...I agree with all of them... I just have two
comments:

- A warning if you try to send messages without any subject (I
frequently forget to add a subject, so have got used to this
feature in other email programs. Since I got The Bat I have sent
several emails without subjects :-( ).

Yes, I even sent a message to this user group without a
subject...silly me!

- Option to colour signature's with a different colour to the rest
of the message.

Good...

- Option for different colours for different quoting levels.

Very Good...

- Configurable toolbar, so you can remove unwanted buttons and add
others that you do want (I'd quite like a 'show kludges' button.

yes, I like it...

- Recognise the 'user-agent' header as well as the 'x-mailer' one
when you ask the program to show the name of the user's email
program.

Haven't had a need for this, I've never seen user-agent, but if it's
out there, it should be supported.

- "Kill file". Right clicking on a message automatically sets up
a filter moving messages by that author into a specified box.

I think you can already do this by right clicking. I'm not at "The
bat" at the moment, but I believe that if you right click, and go to
"Creat filter" (Maybe this is under specials?) You can create a
filter with the information from that message (Sender, subject, etc)

Cheers,
Tim.

Right back atcha,
Derek

Enough already (Was: Re: Pegasus vs. The Bat!)

2000-01-07 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm just a TB! newbie (yet a definite internet and email veteran) and
I agree with Alex with all of this.

Steve, although you offer "workable" solutions, there are easier ways
to deal with the The Bat!s shorcomings besides "what's between the
chair and the keyboard", as you put it.

You may not care to deal with mail from multiple accounts as one, but
some of us do. I don't want to redirect messages all over the place,
bouncing them through my ISP or anywhere else for that matter. For
example, I have an old account, one that I rarely use, but is still
active. I keep it active just in case something comes along that's
worthwhile, maybe an old correspondence, maybe an old friend who
tracked me down through an outdated internet search engine.
Regardless of how the people got the address, I want to filter it the
same way as my other mail.

We can't always control where everyone sends email, we don't email
EVERYONE everyday where we can remind them into submission. The only
other way to do that would be to have a single email account and give
the user no choice. That's neither possible nor practical in most
situations.

Steve, I think you need to accept that your way may not be the
*right* way, it's just your way. There are a lot of us out there that
operate our accounts differently than you do. We just happen to use
the same email product. Therefore, we can have our wishlist, and you
can do things your way. If you are perfectly happy with the way it
works, stick with 1.38e as long as you like. You don't have to
upgrade. Hopefully, when 2.x comes out, it will have OPTIONS, and
hopefully you can continue to operate the way you do even if you do
upgrade. For the rest of us, that want to do things differently, we
have a right to ask for features, and should expect them to be
implemented, as paying customers, if they are supported by enough
people.

Frequently, your responses to someone's wish list have been: "Bad
Idea" or "Wrong" type answers. Instead of a simple: "IMHO, this would
not be effective because..." You need to accept other peoples TB!
usage. They aren't wrong, they aren't bad ideas. They may be based on
misinformation, or not completely thought through, but if you keep
bashing all the new ideas, and stifle innovation by telling people
that the problem is the user, and the software doesn't need
improving, we'll end up with a Micro$oft product!

Best Regards,

Derek Cedillo

Filtering Across Accounts (was: Re: Pegasus vs. The Bat!)

Sounds like this is greatly misunderstood on this list. I even posed

answer was no. Can you be more specific Allie? I'd love to be able

Turn off confirmation dialogs?

2000-01-05 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello!

I was wondering if there are any options anywhere to tone down the
confirmation
dialogs? There seem to be lots. I don't mind the ones where it could
be
a permanent problem (like deleting a folder full of messages), but
when I click
"Ctrl-Enter" to send my message, I don't need to be
asked...really...I *meant* to
do that :)

Thanks,
