Re: [list_b] Re: Renaming Short-Cuts?
Yes. There was some program PCMAG produced for this. Can't recall the name at the moment, but I used it when I used Windows 98. TradeKeys (PCMag) http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,770479,00.asp This issue's utility gives you the keyboard of your dreams. TradeKeys 2 lets you map your keyboard almost any way you want. Under Windows 95, 98, and Me, you can change, swap, or disable any of the standard keys (those that existed on the original 84-key keyboard layout). Under Windows 2000 and XP, you can also remap extended keys such as Right Ctrl and Right Alt, the Windows logo key, and the navigation cluster. You can save your mappings to a file for reloading later. This lets different users on a system switch quickly between different mappings. TradeKeys 2 is an update of our earlier keyboard mapping utility, ZDKeyMap. In addition to supporting NT-based operating systems, this new version offers an improved interface. We provide the Microsoft Visual C source code for TradeKeys with the utility for those interested in seeing how the program works. If I could reassign those keys and move the mM key caps around. Is that actually possible? Maybe easier than mM trying to change the various programs... I think generally you are supposed to be able to change your keyboard, by a file, as Geoff said. But before I found any software, there didn't seem to be any way to change the keyboard just from Windows itself. Perhaps is this any different with Windows XP and their ilk? Re: Re[2]: Using Sound Effectively
Joe I tried following your advice but came up with a new problem. I hadn't realized that my sound file would be played for each and every email coming into that folder (duh!). It sounds awful when a half dozen emails get moved into the folder as it doesn't execute the sound file based on my pressing the get new mail button but rather based on items being moved into the folder. You might want to try this: free utility Mailcall 2 (from PCMag) at: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,353,00.asp It can be used to pre-scan mail while its still on the server and allows you to configure filters with a different WAV file played for each filter satisfied. If you make a couple of recordings you can have (forinstance): Personal mail for Alec - has Alec or Burgess in it Bounceback mail from Yahoo - from my address but to: any Yahoo-group Regular mail - everything else. You can also choose to have a pop-up showing headers and allowing viewing of details and headers only for certain classes of mail. All this gets done before TBat downloads mail from the server. Just make sure MailCall runs more frequently than TBat. It also displays a count of new mail received in the systray icon. Basic scheme: let Mailcall do a prelimanary analysis playing a sound as requested, then let TBat do the heavy lifting of executing any more detailed filtering. Regards ... No colours or anything fancy needed, just the capability to have bold, italic etc as my newsreader Ameol already does. And that's one of the ways Ameol - which I use too - /does/ score over The Bat! It's a small feature, but one I find very valuable. As does *Outlook Express* with /OE-QuoteFix/ ;-) I thought _theBat_ did this too (I'm not using it yet). From this conversation I gather it does *NOT* ? Regards ... Alec -- - Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Re[2]: Move TheBat to my new system
Ben: Sounds like a bit like what I remember from a long time ago, but had since forgotten. but. Since I installed TheBat on Drive D on my current machine, and my new one doesn't have a drive D it won't so easy... My current machine is a Desktop and my new one is a Laptop.. Does that mean that I will have to install TheBat on the new machine and not be able to take advantage of the Backup? Or will I have to do a file import? Since I am on a LAN will that make it easier? Freeware COA2 (Change of Address) from PCMag http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,21277,00.asp should allow you to follow the previous advice and make the change to the Disk you install to. Alternatively, if you open the .REG editor with a good text editor you could probably change all references to D:\ to C:\... so that they would work on the laptop. If it were me - I'd use COA2 to make the change on my Desktop machine (Move from D: to C:) then everything s/b fine when you export to the Laptop. Regards ... Maybe a good idea for v2.0, what do you people out there think about this? I don't need TB! to be able to compose HTML or RTF mails, but such handling of pasted images would be nice. I agree that would be a nice feature, something I have noticed I'd like to have, especially when surfing and I come across a pic I want to send someone. Instead of just copy and paste like in Outlook, I have to save the file then attach. Subscribe to TBTECH how-to (was Re: Sender's Info in Quotation)
Januk: This of course assumes you are using a quick template called Initials to generate (or retrieve) the initials. If you (or anyone else reading this) don't have the initials templates, check the macro library at http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/Library.html#initials. Any explanations or questions about the above should probably move to the TBTECH list. I was trying to subscribe to the TBTECH list. I found instructions saying to send a blank mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] It's got bounced twice (once a couple of days ago and just now when I tried to retrace my steps) starting by Googling tbtech. Is the TBTECH list by invitation only or am I doing something wrong? (I got signed up to TBOT on Yahoo and this list TBUDL no problem). TIA ...
