Re: Upgrade to new version

2017-11-13 Thread Maxim Masiutin
Hello Tom,

First, buy the version 8 registration key and enter it for your version 7
registration.

Version 8 keys are backwards-compatible for version 7 as well.

Make sure that The Bat! 7 displays your version 8 key, it should tell in the
about box that the registration key is valid until version 8.9.

Then, download and install the version 8 .MSI file. Don't uninstall anything.
Version 8 will update all the program files and will keep using your data files.

If you like to pin The Bat! to the Windows Taskbar, the icon will no longer be
valid. To make it survive installations of the new versions, do the following,
once. After you have installed version 8, we would recommend you to manually
create a shortcut on the desktop to point to C:\Program Files\The
Bat!\thebat64(or 32).exe, and then drag this shortcut to the taskbar.

Did you simply try to install version 7 over version 2.12? Do you mean that
after the installation, some of the templates are lost? Or the template text is
not properly interpreted?

Please compress all The Bat! 2 configuration with an archiver like ZIP.

The Bat! version 7 should take all version 2 configuration automatically. If it
won't, send me this ZIP and we will try to figure out and fix a problem, if any.

It updates automaticlally whenever we release a new version.

If you host links to The Bat!, and can automatically check the PAD file, you

It is better to select just "The Bat!", not "The Bat! Simple MAPI 64-bit".

The problem is that even under 64-bit Windows, the Mapi Stub DLL calls
fixmapi.exe which is a 32-bit application and expects the final MAPI dll to be
32-bit, that's why "The Bat! Simple MAPI 64-bit" wont' work under Windows 64.
But in case of applications call it directly (I don't know such), we have also
implemented "The Bat! Simple MAPI 64-bit".

Simple Mapi.

An application loads mapi32.dll from Windows system directory, which is just a
stub, that, in its turn, looks for a default Simple Mapi handler via registry,
at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail

It is The Bat! installer (MSI) that sets up the Simple MAPI handler. Moreover,
since Windows Vista, the Windows System folder is by default protected, so this

This won't solve the EHLO problem.

1. You have to know that you have to configure this argument
2. You have to know WHAT to type there

You can already configure your own part of the HELO by modifying the

192.168.104.105 blabla

Where 192.168.104.105 is your IP address and blabla is the name that will be

Thank you, we will try to send HELO machine, but we have to figure out how to

characters. Will try to see how Outlook behaves in these cases.

Odd problem. I run The Bat version 3.96.6 with a Netgear DG632 ADSL Modem

send mail there's a delay for exactly 13 seconds and then the message will
finally go.

It may be a problem with name resolution - the router may assign an IP address
to you that does not resolve back to a symbolic host name (FQDN).

The Bat! sends
EHLO hostname
to the SMTP server.
If your DNS settings are improperly configured, it may take a while to get the
name of the hostname from the numeric address. So make sure you have configured
all the DNS settings properly and the delay won't arise.

EHLO [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]

That is, the IP address. Something many of us don't like.

This did only happen under Windows XP; we have fixed this today. New versions
will not send this dotted-decimal argument in EHLO any longer if they will be
able to resolve the symbolic name.

No it doesn't. It sends HELO [unroutable-local-ip] here. Whether thats
good style is argueable.

We are using the new getnameinfo() API call and unfortunately under Windows XP
it returns error 11004. Under Windows 2003 or Vista it works properly. New
versions of The Bat! will be calling old API calls to get the symbolic name if
getnameinfo() will fail.

If your DNS settings are improperly configured

If a client computer needs manual DNS configuration, the network is
improperly configured.

I agree.

it may take a while to get the name of the hostname from the numeric
 address

E?!? Which hostname should be resolved by whom in your example?

E.g. mycomputer.mshome.net

I don't have a delay, I was just chiming in since you left out the
essentials answers on TBBeta when we last discussed it.

After that discussion we have put back an old way to resolve the host names; I
had no idea why getnameinfo() API call could fail under Windows XP.

And I see no evidence how a delay should arise by the name resolution if
I'm relaying to a foreign SMTP server.

This delay may happen on a client during the getnameinfo() API call or during
DnsQuery() API call or during gethostbyaddr() API call.

The Bat! saves it to a folder which you've used last time to save an attachment.

If you save first time ever since installing The Bat!, it saves to the current

Isn't it?

JFYI: enhancements of the COOKIE macro

2006-12-29 Thread Maxim Masiutin
Hello Tbudl,

Since version 3.95 you are able to specify second parameter of the cookie macro
to specify the Charset of the file, e.g.

%COOKIE(C:\a\max.txt,Windows-1251)

this means that the file C:\a\max.txt contains characters in Windows-1251
encoding.

Alternatively, %COOKIE macro supports Unicode files. In this case, do not
specify any charset, just use Windows Notepad to save file in Unicode encoding,
i.e. make sure the first character of the file is FEFF character.

The Bat! Pro and SecureBat! are the different names for the same product.

Also, what is the situation with these programs in Poland? It is my
understanding that in the past you could only receive SecureBat!
from Germany. Has anything changed in that regard recently?

Our dealer in Poland (http://cro.skulski.pl/) doesn't currently offer SecureBat!, but
you can order SecureBat! with iKey1000 from the U.S. or SecureBat! with eTokenPro 16k
from Germany. Both German and American distributors do deliver worldwide.

I don't know how it looks now, but you're right that German
distributor was sending out SB! bundles. Maybe ever worldwide. Can
someone with SB! living outside Europe can confirm that?

We have customers in Poland who bought SecureBat! from aboard, they've paid by Credit
Card got it by International Mail.

How much does it cost to upgrade from the student TheBat! version
 (V2)?

I think that there is no and won't be such upgrade possibility, which
is for me quite understandable.

There is a discount (10 USD off the price of SecureBat!) for the users who upgrade
from The Bat! to SecureBat!
