Hello Daf, Saturday, March 30, 2002, 11:12:01 AM, you wrote to TBUDL: D What I've been doing is to highlight the unwanted e-mail in my D inbox, then go to Specials create filter - then check box D that says sender - Then use for incoming - then send to D trash. But this does not appear to be working correctly for me. D As a test I set one up to work with this list and I still get the D list in my inbox. If you study the headers, you will see that the From-field for TBUDL-messages contains the original emailaddress of the sender, not the list address. This is contained in the Reply-to field. Therefore you have made a filter that sends not all mail from TBUDL to trash, but only mail from the writer of the message you highlighted. This strategy also creates a separate filter for each spammer, and this can make your filter list very long. Consider making a filter called Spam and make trash the destination folder. Open the Sorting Office (Ctr-Shift-S) With Incoming mail highlighted, press New Give it name, select destination folder, and enter the filtering string. When you shall add another spammer, click the Alternatives set and click Add new. For each new spammer you just add a new alternative. Consider checking out all of the haeders in the offending mail (Ctr-Alt-K) and use the emailaddress in Reply-to field or even domain-name in recieved from, instead of only the From-address (which is often faked and replaced with a new address the next time). Then you must select Kludges instead of Sender in the filter. Kludges looks for the string in all of the headers. Another strategy is to make an address book group for all your spammers. You just highligh the spam message, rightclick and select specials, add to addressbook, and select the spam-group. Then you can have a filter that look for @ in sender (every mail messages contains this) but under advanced you scroll down and tick the box Address must be listed in address book, and select the Spam-group. This makes makes blocking new spammers as easy as the function in Outlook Express (but less precise than the former strategy). -- Best regards, Ottar Grimstad, Norway http://home.online.no/~ottgrims Using The Bat! 1.60c on Windows 98 version 4,10 Current Ver: 1.60c FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Content Transfer Encoding
Hello TBUDL, I am norwegian and uses the norwegian letters æøåÆØÅ a lot, even in subjects. I switched to Quoted Printable encoding. This works fine for this list, but there is trouble when people with Outlook Express shall answer my mail. As I was finishing, I accidentally discovered that in addition to the travel company, the mailing list address was also in the To: field. The %TO=listname macro in the template had added it. It would be a bit embarrassing to send this order to a whole list of several hundred people. My folder tempates for this list is now erased, and I rely fully on Address Book templates instead. -- Best regards, Ottar Grimstad, Norway mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://home.online.no/~ottgrims Using The Bat! 1.52c on Windows 98 version 4,10 -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Hello Thomas, Sunday, May 27, 2001, 10:48:32 AM, you wrote: T It took a while, but I found it. RegEx's should not be posted here, T but the list is quiet today, so I hope it is OK. Questions about it T should be psoted on TBTECH, though. T Include this RegEx in your reply template: Thank you. But as Bernhard Kohl pointed out, I was trying to correct the Subject in incoming mail in order to get the threading right. He said this could not be done with the Bat. -- Best regards, Ottar Grimstad, Norway mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://home.online.no/~ottgrims Using The Bat! 1.52c on Windows 98 version 4,10 -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
Threading and sorting
Hello TBUDL: If I thread by reference (Alt-1), the messages are sorted inside the thread so that the newest messages get to the bottom level, so I have to expand the thread to see the last messages. If I thread by subject (Alt-2), the new messages are in top of the three, ready to click and read. This changes without touching the View Sort by option. The last behavior is much preferable, but gives the problem with the first message in a thread not sorted with the others, and national varieties of the Re: starting new threads. Does anyone have an explanation or a fix. -- Best regards, Ottar Grimstad, Norway mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://home.online.no/~ottgrims Using The Bat! 1.52c on Windows 98 version 4,10 -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Hello Bernhard, Friday, May 25, 2001, 10:00:55 AM, you wrote: BK But what you are trying to do is replacing strings in incoming mail. BK And I was told some time ago that TB! isn't capable of doing that. BK What you can try is a german tool named Hamster with Korrnews BK http://home.knuut.de/tgl/own/hamtools.htm BK which will act as it's own mail and news server and will do the BK replacements. I am not sure that the problem is big enough to introduce another set of software running continuously on my computer. But if I install hamster it will make it possible to change from Agent to Xnews for news. So perhaps I shall consider it. -- Best regards, Ottarmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Hello Dierk, Friday, May 25, 2001, 3:45:08 PM, you wrote: DH That's quite funny; I first learned of Hamster some years ago from DH Agent users trying to set up Agent for more than one news server DH to specifically use Agent further. You are the first one I hear DH from who does not want to use Agent (esp. with Hamster). ;-) After using The Bat! for mail I find Agent insufficient. Especially it lacks the ability to use different templates for newsgroups in different languages. I do not know if Xnews is better, but it has no off-line mode so I do not want to try it out without Hamster. But I guess Marck is going to chase this discussion over into TBOT real soon now. -- Best regards, Ottar Grimstad, Norway mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://home.online.no/~ottgrims Using The Bat! 1.52c on Windows 98 version 4,10 -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
Theading with non standard Subject containing SV:
Hello TBUDL: In Norway Microsoft in their wisdom (not) and disrespect for standards, prefaces answers with SV: instead of Re: in their mail products. This messes up the threading in a Norwegian mailing list I participate in. Most of the participants uses Outlook Express and the headers contains a mix of SV: and Re: Is there a way around this problem? a way of filtering away these SV: and replace it with Re: as needed, or another solution? -- Best regards, Ottar Grimstad, Norway mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://home.online.no/~ottgrims Using The Bat! 1.52c on Windows 98 version 4,10 -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
