Wow! I am impressed. You manage to deal with the computer as anybody else.
Respect!

Back to your problem. Just to check your report I have removed the SecureBat 2
eToken installation on my notebook and replaced it with TheBat 3.5 Pro. (Which
was a problematic procedure, by the by.) For the daily work I am using TheBat
3.5 with iKey 1000 on my desktop. On the eToken installation I have also
updated the Aladin driver with the latest one recommended by Max Masiutin.
After done this I tried in both installations to store an account password on
the token.

With identical results:

!20.05.2005, 22:05:53: SEND - Message has not been sent. Server reply - must
be authenticated

It seems that TB is unable to pass the authentification data to the server if
we store the password on the token, no matter whether eToken or iKey.

Since this is a highly technical issue, we should pass this thread to Max.
Maybe he can give us some more hints on what to check out or what we are doing
wrong. Or - the best chance - he can fix this issue.

It's hard to believe that this has something to do with TB but with your

Have you tried using another client (e.g. Thunderbird, very good for testing

I don't think that it's freeware - but it had been published at least on a cd

If you are running WinXP, execute this from the command line:

 reg delete "HKCU\Software\Rit\The Bat!" /f

(copy and paste it exactly as shown!)

Or write it to a plain ascii file called "delbat.bat" and double-click it.

Alternatively run regedit.exe, navigate to the key
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rit"
and remove the COMPLETE tree "The Bat!". (Caution! Do not remove anything else!)

Then start thebat.exe. The first (or one of the first) questions will be

want to use OTFE.

Yes, it is.

Download the XMP Plugin at http://www.gaijin.at/download/thebat/xmp.rar.

Then create a quick-template like this (just a q&d hack):

/°° [ sc ] °°
| %XMP_SetClipB("%-
| %XMP_StrC(#%-
| From: %OfromName <%OFROMADDR>\w%-
| To: %OtoName <%OTOADDR>\w%-
| Date: %ODate\w%-
| Subj: %OSubj\w\w%-
| %text#)")%-
\

Name it for example "sc". Then reply to a message, write "sc" and
the
content you wanted is placed in the clipboard.

You can verify the output by expanding the template like this:

/°° [ sc2 ] °
| %XMP_SetClipB("%-
| %XMP_StrC(#%-
| From: %OfromName <%OFROMADDR>\w%-
| To: %OtoName <%OTOADDR>\w%-
| Date: %ODate\w%-
| Subj: %OSubj\w\w%-
| %text#)")%-
| %clipboard
\

Then reply to a message, press to mark the complete text, write
"sc" and have a look at the output.

Hope it helps.

well, Roelof, I can understand your point of view - and it isn't a new one.
In Fidonet this discussion lasted at least 10 years :-) Of course, without
any well accepted result.

In general I agree that no software shall alter a message. But isn't a
message also altered in transit by adding header lines? I really trust in TB
*because* it saves messages exactly that way the user wrote it and does not
alter it before or after sending.

But! If I (the user) instruct TB to add a special header after sending the
message then it happens on my request, with my knowledge. It is exactly the
way *I* want it to be and therefore TB should be allowed to do so. Of course
as an option which is inactive by default.

RO> But as usual it is possible to do what you want with a
RO> filter, the filter below will do what you want:

Yes, that is possible but very unhandy. A simple switch would make life much
easier ;-) and wouldn't have all the drawbacks your filter has.

Let me make a third suggestion: The best way to keep track about the
date/time a message has actually been sent would be an addition to the
database. TB must only save the references to the sent messages and the
date/time of sending. This information could, for example, be displayed in
the headers context menu.

Your opinion?
