In TheBat 4.1.11, the backup file didn't get compressed
To my surprise, my .tbk backup file (using 4.1.11) was about 3 times as large as before. After I cleaned out and compressed the folders, it got back down to normal, but why would the backup not be automatically minimized? If the user doesn't realize that it's not minimized, the backups could waste a lot of space on the backup media. How big is the uncompressed file, and how big is the zipped file? Just a guess, but maybe your SMTP server decides after a certain size that enough is enough and assumes that the end is nigh, but cannot find the full-stop there. -- Cheers, Thomas. The file was about 900 KB, or 1.2 MB when converted to MIME. I've sent RAR files (as attachments) at least that big before and never had a problem, but I assume that the MIME translation created some type of flag--somewhere--that the server didn't like. A fluke. It may never happen again, so I'm not going to worry about it till it does. :-) Thanks for your help. Randy -- R Burns [EMAIL PROTECTED] HoHoHo! Seid Ihr auch alle schön brav gewesen? OT: Changes at GMX
For those who are interested in GMX free email: - Start Forwarded Message - From: GMX [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Alle Mitglieder von GMX [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: GMX International Dear GMX member, as you are a user of our e-mail services, you might know that GMX is a company based in Munich, Germany. Despite the international reach of the Internet and irrespective of globalisation our user statistics reflect the fact that we are a German-based company: More than 97 percent of our members state that German is their mother tongue. In view of the global nature of the Internet we have so far offered our main features in various languages. However, the design, the host of features and security standards of our multi-lingual website are no longer state-of-the art and do not meet the high standard we set for the German site. From an economic point of view it seems not reasonable to us to adapt our multilingual webpages. For this reason, we have finally decided to give up the international versions as of January 31, 2002. Please be informed that your e-mail address is still available after this date. You can use your adress under the same domain as in the past. You can further use an external mail program or enjoy the whole range of features GMX offers on the German website. Maybe you take this as an opportunity to brush up your knowledge of German a bit. We appreciate your understanding for this decision and would be happy to welcome you again on our website. Dealing with TBUDL List Volume using GMX
I thought I would share my technique for pre-filtering TBUDL messages (getting just the original questions sent to my standard email account, without so many reply messages). I filter-out the replys, and just send the original question emails to my standard email server. Then, if the topic is interesting, which most are, I can go find all the replies on that topic. My TBUDL messages go to a free GMX (web) email account ( http://www35.gmx.net/v4/login?LANG=uk ), where I use these filters (below). Messages with Re: or Re[2]: are stored locally, and others are forwarded to my standard email account (to give me a heads-up on current topics on TBUDL).
