Re: The-Ctrl+P-Bug
Hi Co-Batties, [16.11.2002] VDE - freeze of focus! Should be reproducable on any platform It is on W2K here. But it's no real freeze, it's just a focused invisible object that prevents further interaction of navigation keys (arrows, tab ...). Using the mouse you can easily refetch the focus, albeit I have to confess: this ain't more than an ugly work around, the problem should be avoided in next upcoming major version. That would be great. Re: Password problem!
Hi, Thursday, June 21, 2001 Been playing with account and group passwords to understand how to best configure multiple users on a single computer. I then reset the primary account (which seems to act as the administrator, although I couldn't find this documented) by deleting the entries in set account password. Now, however, I am _always_ prompted for a password when starting TB. (It's null so I don't enter anything in the password field.) There are no passwords on the other two accounts, and I've deleted the only Group and it's password. How do I get back to an unprompted mode?? Hi Co-Batties, Wednesday, January 10, 2001 VDE Deleting Messages = I find Ctrl+Del very VDE irritating - a simple Del is more logical and wrist VDE friendly (as it's used more often than deleting a VDE folder). I always simply press delete to delete messages. VDE ... and if you have to delete 260 messages in one step? You VDE certainly won't press del when you're on a folder ;-) I don't get it. How would TB know which 260 messages to delete if you won't tell it by cklicking on them? I usually park the two or three messages of interest and delete the rest of the folder (especially mailing list folders). VDE This might sound a little bit arrogant now, but anyway: I VDE don't know a single "power user" that uses a mouse more VDE than once a day ... thus these mouse arguments are quite VDE irrelevant for me. No it's not arrogant, just ignorant g. I hardly use keyboard shortcuts (with a few exceptions) and receive an avarage of 100-200 emails a day (not counting FirstClass Conferences). I addition, I spend hours every evening on the PC, what with studying software engineering for an MSc and all, and generally enjoy being on the computer more than in front of the TV. So, kindly define "power user" for me to understand who you mean. People who don't use the mouse? I define "power user" as people who don't want to waste time. There are several studies showing, that the use of the mouse is in general for newbies. The reason is quite obvious: If you're able to use all of your eight fingers and two thumbs on the keyboard there is no real need to grab the mouse, to move the pointer, to select the right menu, submenu and item and finally to click it. This takes in average - according to your abilities - round about a second. Over all you will be wasting almost 15 minutes a day "driving around". And what is even worse IMHO: If you're stuck - mouse is defect, icons disappear etc. - you don't know what to do to make your apps work like you're used to. This BTW is not a spleen of me, it's deriving from own experience as well as from teaching many people how to use apps effectively and - proud, proud - I never had a single complaint and even better: Many people who fell down on their knees and thanked for know knowing how to work more efficient *and* to save time ... the brutal truth ;-))) Cheers, Vince -- -- View the TBUDL archive at http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBUDL, double click here and send the message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Hi Co-Batties, I dunno whether all of you tend to appreciate the following ideas, but I wanted to offer them for discussion: Deleting Messages = I find Ctrl+Del very irritating - a simple Del is more logical and wrist friendly (as it's used more often than deleting a folder). Warning Sounds == I would like to turn of the warning noise and even the messages when deleting files from a folder or setting them from unread to read. Default Settings When creating folders there certainly should be something like a standard or template to be used (for accounts as well as folders in fact) - I don't like to configure my typical settings for each account and folder again and again. At least - and this is IMHO the easiest and maybe even most comfortable way - it should be possible to select more than one folder at a time ... imagine: To mark the messages in five folders as read, you simply mark the folders and press Ctrl+M ... or imagine what a wonderful world it would be, if you can adjust the periodical checking by selecting the appropriate accounts and set the time! To all sceptics: There is no contradiction in this, as option differences could be greyed out ... Printing Problem There is a funny problem existing in printing a mail - at least on my system and when using the main view rather than the folder view. I usually print mails of interest by reading them in the preview and then pressing Ctrl+P. First annoyance: If the cursor resides in the preview Ctrl+P doesn't work - without any obvious reason. Re[2]: Message Columns
Hi Januk, Thursday, November 02, 2000 Absolutely perfect would be a set of standard column settings to apply to ... any creative ideas about this? I'm not sure what you mean? My personal preference for the column layout is: Subject Flagging Message Flags Parking Attachments From To Created Size Received You can have a default setting for a given account. Under the folder properties, select "Use Account default column settings" You need to do this for all folders. Now change the column settings in any of the folders where you've enabled this option. This sets the default settings for the account. Does this answer your question? Somehow ... maybe I didn't make clearly enough, what I mean, so I'll give it another try: There used to be a time, when I thought giving each folder a simple set of columns which meets the needs of the folder would be a good idea. Today I have in general three types of folders: - mailbox folders (subject first, sorted by subject) - personal folders (sender first, sorted by sender) - customer folders (subject first, sorted by creation date) Now I'm facing the following problem: Setting all accounts do "use default" would disable me to have the three types of sorting, especially the mailbox and customer folders collide. By time I learned to utilize the different columns, but - what a shame - I changed the individual settings of so many folders, that it would be a harsh job to revert every folder manually. Thus I wondered, whether there might be a simple trick - as a first step back to proper column setting - to give every folder a predefined column setting *without* using the "use default" option ... I'm also certainly pleased with any idea which might be useful to solve my problem ... Re[3]: Hiding folders
Hi Co-Batties, Tuesday, May 23, 2000 p let me explain: Originally when I said hiding account folders, I p meant not listing them while in another account, (the reasoning is p because we have too many folders in the little top left window p sometimes) but I do also want to be able to get back to them p sometimes, and I don't want to have to fight something automagic to p get back through to them. Maybe this needs to be thought about a p little more clearly huh? If we've constantly have a auto-hide p making us do work to get back, then this isn't the idea I had about p account folders. After all, I do go back and read old mail from p time to time, if this was taking too much time and we defeat the p purpose of making things easier, then I would be against it. Seems some kind of auto-expanding list like in MSO or a simple button (show all / show active) should do ... p When discussing account folders, and folders withing each account, p should they behave different? Nope ... if a subsubsubfolder has to be shown, the folders leading to this level - including the account - also should be displayed ... p The more I think about it, maybe they need to. I do like Vince's p Original Idea, but maybe more thought needs to go into it. For some p reason, I can't visualize it at the moment (no I ain't been p drinking, maybe it's the linux acronyms right now... ) G I rather think that a visualization of this feature isn't really needed as the functionality is somehow obvious ... or? ;-))) Cheers, Vince -- -- View the TBUDL archive at http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBUDL, double click here and send the message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Hi Co-Batties, Friday, May 19, 2000 VDE I just thought that an option would be nice to hide a set of VDE folders ... e. g. I rather seldomly want to see the trash and VDE sent box. TS Beside these two folders, every other folder can be placed in a TS folder named "unused" or "unimportant" as a subfolder so you TS minimize the length of folders two! Not really ... I already "subfoldered" everything - but still have almost fifty folders to be displayed ... maybe I should explain this a little: I fetch mail from 12 accounts ... some are business, others private and another three are for mailing lists. Thus the needs are very different: The ML accounts are mostly needed to read ... the business ones maybe should show the sent box too ... and BTW: I don't like it to follow the subfolders to find e. g. a few new messages. Now imagine this: After you fetched mails, The Bat! automatically collapses and decollapses the folders - that would really be an amazing feature - at least for me ;-) VDE This feature would decrease the length of the folders VDE dramatically ... hey, another thought: What about having a VDE filter to hide every folder unused? *sigh* ... yeah, this would VDE be great ... S and it shouldn't minimize there :) only few crazy applications S minimazing in tray by hitting Win+D or Win+M:) At least the behaviour of Win+M and Alt-Space/N should be the same - and as we are able to choose between "minimize to taskbar" and "minimize to system tray" - ain't we? - it should IMHO minimize to systray ... 1.41 - still problems
Hi Co-Batties, I really hoped, that the issues - well known since 1.32 something - would have been fixed - nothing ;-( To bring it back into focus, try the following: - Open The Bat - Move to the message overview: Printing with Ctrl+P not implemented ;-((( - okay, Message / Print - it's printed - now move up or down with a cursor key: Focus lost! No chance to get it back. Dear Developers: Please, please, please try to fix this in 1.42! It's really annoying! Still not working
Hi Co-Batties, AFAIK it was said, that Ctrl+P will be provided in "normal" view for printing a message ... and still there's a bug after printing: Moving the marker up or down in the list of messages looses focus for the message window. Any further information on that matter available? Re[2]: Ctrl+P for Printing, please!
Hi Co-Batties, Friday, December 10, 1999 VDE since 1.3 I ask it every release again and again: Why is there no VDE shortcut for printing in the main view? I hate to go through the menu VDE every time I want to print a message ... anyone else? I understand we can configure our own shortcuts in version 2. AM You'll be able to configure shortcuts, not create your own. There is no AM keyboard shortcut provided for printing messages via the main window. You AM have to use the menu. However, in folder view, the shortcut CTRL+P is AM implemented and works. There are a couple other things that makes me prefer AM reading my mail via the folder view window rather than the message AM auto-view. But, hey, it can't be a big deal to provide a consistant shortcut behaviour, thus providing Ctrl+P in main window's auto-view ... or? BTW: The auto-view is quick and easy - so why should I switch to another mode? Where are the advantages?
