But only for the folder you have already deleted. Deleting these files
in live folders will get rid of mail that you probably want to keep.

When deleting a folder TB gives you three choices what to do with the
messages inside it: Move to trash, Wipe or Leave message base files
intact.
When you go for the third option, TB will leave the matching directory
on your harddisk including the messages.tbb and .tbi files. Those
files are TB's message base. Every folder has them

cleaning up old folders; .TBB & .TBI files

2007-07-08 Thread Achdut18
Hi, everyone, I am in the process of cleaning up old mail files, and
in some cases I have deleted a folder and all of its contents within
the TB mail client; however, in Windows Explorer, I can still see the
folder as a subdirectory within The Bat! file directory. Those folders
contain messages.tbi and messages.tbb. Are these some kind of back up
files? If so, is it possible to safely delete these files and the
parent folder without causing the program to choke or be stuck? None
of the mail being deteleted is anything for which I would ever want to
go back and dig up.

It is save to do so, but what you're describing looks like a large
messagebase. When did you compress your inbox for the last time? If
that's been awhile than you'd better try that option first.

Hi,

I'm having a little problem with one of my inboxen. When a new message
arrives, I'll click on the folder, and it'll take anywhere from 15 to 90
seconds to display it. Is it safe to delete the .tbi for that folder and

Although the index file would be regenerated, you'll lose such things
as Flags, Replied to message marks, colors, etc.

You can have TB do the backup with Tools->Backup.

2003-05-31 Thread Wilfried Mestdagh
Hello,

I see in the mail folder, that all mails are saved in a *.tbb file and there
is also for each one a *.tbi file witch I assume it is an index file.

Do I have to backup the index files also, or are they automaticly recreated if
missing ? I also assume that deleted files are marked as such in the index
file, but I put compact folders on exit on.

  thanks !

Each folder [name] that you define will create a new
subdirectory [name] containing a file messages.tbb (the
message database) and messages.tbi (the index to the
messages).

Yes, they can be deleted, but you'd lose your mail...

No! This would delete your messages. Instead, purge and compress your
