You'd think wouldn't you? But no. I have Adblocker, Adblocker Plus, AdRemover
and Ublock Origin. Yet, the ads still appear.

It is somehow satisfying to be able to remove these ads from my screen, even
though I know that they're still lurking in the original HTML. Such is the way
my mind works.

Take THAT Kim Komando!

Wouldn't one of the ad-blocker extensions remove these ads in Chrome

Ad source mystery (solved) (sort of)

Hello TBUDL'ers,

To all who have been following this thread I wanted to let everyone know that I
found a Chrome extension which does what I remember from what I posted in the
original post.

It's a page clean-up-for-printing extension and once invoked, places a red
border around the element clicked on. The entire contents enclosed by the red
border turns light red and at that point and pressing the "D" key immediately
deletes that element from the page.

It seems to work exactly as I remembered it except it's improved in that a
toolbar appears at the top of the page where previously you had to poke around
to find the menu.

The deletions are of course temporary and will re-appear when the page is
reloaded. It's just used to clean up a web page for printing and the cleaned
page can be saved if needed. A neat way to save ink and paper.

Admittedly not a perfect solution and it may seem to some that removing
extremely offensive ads before reading the page is just too much. But I'm glad I
found it again.

Ah. Well that's unfortunate as I had hoped it to be a way to delete the image
coding from the HTML file.

As I understand it, the Image Download Manager does not delete
anything.  It controls which images are allowed (or not) to display in
TB!  Nothing is affected/allowed/disallowed when opened in Chrome or
otherwise outside of TB!

I'm still in TB! is titled MESSAGE.HTML. I thought that the file is merely an
HTML text file which when opened by the Chrome browser, displays a web page just
like any other web page. If that's true, and if the Image Download Manager can
delete specific text from the HTML file before it's ever opened by Chrome, then
shouldn't that prevent from appearing whatever image was defined by the text
which the Image Download Manager deleted? Or do I simply not understand what the
Image Download Manager does?

I don't ever see any images until I double-click that Chrome icon and the HTML
file is executed by Chrome.

Thank you Lore. I did not know of such a tool within TB!. I took a brief look at
it in my Bat long enough to learn that apparently there's no CTRL-F (text
search) that can be used from within TB!. However, it just occurred to me that I
might be able to copy the text and paste it into a new text document and search
it that way.

FYI - I looked up https://powerinbox.com/ and see it is to put marketing
in emails.  Much like Live Intent, which MarketWatch uses.

Yes, I can unsubscribe but I'm still very curious as to their source. A previous
reply from Lore Galore brought to the fore a little known (to me) function
within TB! that may possibly be used to prevent page elements from ever
appearing. It looks interesting and I plan to explore it at some length or until
I just give up in frustration because I don't know enough about HTML coding.

I apologize for not mentioning that all the ads seemed to be contained in only
the Kim Komando newsletters. I simply overlooked it.

That was why I asked the question. I figured if it were just these specific 
newsletters, you would have pointed that out, but I wanted to check in case you 
were able to see a pattern. I am much more comfortable thinking it's these 
particular newsletters over Charter inserting ads, though that is something 
email hosts can do. I would expect them to show ads in the webmail client, not 
the emails themselves.

Hopefully you can unsubscribe, or maybe just send all those Kim Komando 
newsletters to junk.

Right. I made the notations regarding the URLs just to show the origin of the

Well, I don't know where to find either the temp file or the message source but

correctly couldn't the original HTML text file have come from Kim Komando?
Couldn't she be including the ad text in the HTML she sends out rather than it
coming from Charter? The ads seem to appear only in anything from Kim Komando. I
subscribed to several of her newsletters and the ads appear in all of the
newsletters.

The URL is to the temp file TB! created from the HTML part in the
message source when you clicked to view the HTML message in your
browser.

Presumably the code to call the ads is in the temp file I mentioned
above.

Try viewing the page source when you are looking at the message in
your browser. Or look at the temp file in a text editor. Or look at
the message source in TB!

Do you see these ads on every email that comes from Charter or only certain 
emails (like those from these newsletters)?

Just trying to get a little more information, but what I suspect is this has 
nothing to do with TB!. When you are clicking that Chrome icon you are opening 
the html that was sent from your ISP in Chrome. So if you're seeing it there, 
it's because that's what was sent to you. I believe Charter is using this 
POWERINBOX service to serve you ads. What they show in the Charter webmail 
client can be different from what they send to you when you POP the email.

Hello TBUDL'ers,

First let me thank Marck for clarification on ways to get screenshots to this
list.

Second, to the reason for this missive. The following Dropbox link shows how I
view TB! Upper left is my account tree, upper right is the message list for the
folder selected in the tree and the bottom half contains the contents of the
selected message.

Notice that the bottom half doesn't provide a whole lot of information about the
message because no pictures are displayed. I suspect there are better ways of
doing this but this has sufficed for me for many years. If I WANT to view the
contents of the message in all its glory, I double-click on the Chrome icon at
the far left. More on that later.

The following link shows what I see when I log onto my ISP directly, go to my
email and click on that particular message.

Note the URL in the address bar. The ad at the top by POWERINBOX is the only one
I'll see anywhere on the entire web page. The ad is usually different each time
I view the page.

If however I double-click on the aforementioned Chrome icon at the far left of
my TB! view screen, it causes Chrome to be launched and displays the web page as
you would expect, with the same top of screen displayed as it was when I viewed
the message from my ISP directly. See next link.

Again, note the URL and notice the ad is different. Now however, as I scroll
down the page, I get this about a quarter way down:
