A filter is set up once under Eudora and then enabled for the function
you want it to perform. Under TB!, you end up creating duplicate
filters under different sections (incoming, outgoing, etc.)

It seems like more work and maintenance that way.

There are few days I'm using it, and can say it's an excellent and
very helpful little tool. It manages smtp servers on the fly too.

I'm aware of that possibility, but it's not allowed by all ISP's,
though most of them permit it.

For those of us Ex-Eudora users, the filter dialog had 3 check boxes:

Incoming
Outgoing
Manual

The first two meant what they said, filter income and outgoing mail.
The Manual check allowed the filter to operate when manually
filtering, which is different from how TB! works.

I use my computer in different locations, hence with different ISPs. I
dispatch via cable at home, dsl at the office, and different dial up
providers depending where I'm on the road. Some correspondents
therefore get mail from me from multiple addresses, and may respond to
same by simply replying. Dealing with this at my end means for those
people I have to have the same filter in multiple accounts.

I'm using 14 accounts, no less 8-), on a daily basis for different
roles. Among other things, I'm webmaster for several web sites owned
by different organizations.

Most of the time I need automatic replies, templates etc. to be
different for each account, and this is where TB! excels. I would,
however, like to have global filters as well. Most of all for fighting
Spam. I have received up to 5 copies of the same message at the same
time for different accounts 8-).

No, there's no way at present.

In what situation would you want the same filter to work for multiple
accounts?

I can see a need for filtering messages to another accounts inbox where
the other accounts inbox filters will act on the same message. This
feature is supposed to be added in the future.

I'm afraid not. You have to create outgoing filters to achieve the
same effect.

A good thing to do is that whenever you create an incoming filter,
copy it to your outbox and change the string parameter. If you filter
on sender, change it to recipient.

It's a daunting limitation when you already have 50 filters and wish
to move outgoing mail to the original message folders.

Thanks for confirming that. I had just discovered the copy option too,
so I will remember to make an outgoing filter as well.

Is there a way to make filters work for all mail accounts - they seem

TB hasn't got that option. The only way to achieve that is to set
corresponding outgoing filters for every folder.

Automatically store reply in same folder

2002-04-22 Thread Christopher Taylor-Davies

I am in the process of converting from Outlook to the Bat (1.60c) and
am busy setting up incoming filters happily.

One thing that Outlook let you specify was to automatically store a
outgoing reply in the same folder as the original message. For most
purposes this avoided the need for outgoing filters.

Is there a way of setting this up in the Bat, either with a general
filter, or some option that I have missed somewhere?
