Re: BayesIt option settings

Hi Richard,

I just sent a test message from my wife's address, and even that was
filtered into the junk folder. I therefore deleted and re-installed
the plugin, but it makes no difference. Anyone else having this
 problem?

I, for one, now have everything being filtered to the junk folder - it's my new
inbox. I wonder if, like me, nothing filtered *at all* before you upgraded to the Bat
V2.10 and BayesIT V0.5.

Before it was working normally. I'd been using it for only a month,
but it was already averaging about 60%, and on a good day would hit
85-90%. If I can't get this version to work, I may go back to v.0.4.

Hi Richard.

At 9:28 PM on Saturday, April 17, 2004 it seems you posted the
following to [EMAIL PROTECTED] in regards to BayesIt option
settings:

I just upgraded to v.2.1, which has the BayesIt plugin v.5. Since
upgrading, all mailing lists (including TBUDL) and friends' e-mails
that have a bunch of cc's are filtered to the Junk folder. None
of the adjustments I've made has made a difference. [/...]

Without using Bayesit, about 99% of my junk mail gets filtered to
the junk folder. About once/twice a month, my filters miss something
1-3 are not marked read (meaning I have to go check them). Only on a
very rare occasion do I find legit email in my junk folder.

I just don't understand what the love affair with bayesit is when
TB! can do it all on its own.

Can any of you Bayesit fans explain this to me? I'm not be cute
  here. Maybe I'm missing something.

I think the explaining is on your part :) Or maybe we're not receiving
the same amount or type of spam ? Before Bayesit (just a month or two
ago in my case) I was constantly trying to keep up with spam, adding
strings to my spam filter as best I could. Only to find it an
impossible and very tedious battle against new permutations of spam.

Maybe you've got some tips you'd like to share about how to set up a
filter that needs little or no maintenance?

Bayesit has saved me from thinking about it. I didn't even believe it
would work, but it came in TB 2.04 and seemed to kill most spam
without my doing anything. I receive 30 spam mails pr. day on average.

of the adjustments I've made has made a difference.

So far I've marked them as not junk, and I've raised the average
score to 80 (from 50). I also added the addresses of TUBDL and others
to the the white list of kludges in the options section. Obviously I'm
missing something.

1. What is the difference between an average, maximum, and minimum
score?

2. I've enabled use white list of kludges, but should I put more (or
something other) than the mailing address? And what does optimize
list do?

3. The default setting for the number of judging tokens is 15, and
the enable advanced judging is checked. I hate to sound so ignorant,
but what are judging tokens? To increase accuracy, should I raise or
lower this number?

4. Is one of my settings causing it to not learn when I mark TUBDL
as not SPAM?

Rick
