I think so as I've tried both left & right ALT keys with the same
non-result. It would be nice to know what's going on with this.

Secondary and tertiary ANDs are achieved with Alt-Ins (to add
additional - aka AND - filter strings) within alternate sets. Create
alternate set D then, when you have defined rule D, press Alt-Ins to
create an AND slot for rule E.

I'm almost there, Marck. In the Alternatives, I've always assumed
each was a separate criteria. If I understand this correctly, I
  could make a Rule that required A & B & C or

Let me try and show you the same set first: On the first page is this
 _
|A_|??_|Yes___|
|B_|??_|Yes___|
|C_|??_|Yes___|

and then, on the Alternatives, we have two sets
 _
|D_|??_|Yes___|
|E_|??_|Yes___|

 _
|F_|??_|Yes___|

That makes (A AND B AND C) OR (D AND E) OR (F).

To get (A & B & C) or (D or E or F) on the first page is this
 _
|A_|??_|Yes___|
|B_|??_|Yes___|
|C_|??_|Yes___|

and then, on the Alternatives, we have *three* sets
 _
|D_|??_|Yes___|

 _
|E_|??_|Yes___|

 _
|F_|??_|Yes___|

JR> What happens if you 5 alternatives or more as I do on one filter?

If they're in a block they're all ANDed. If they're all separate,
they're all ORed.

(A AND B AND C) OR (D AND E) OR (F).

Just to obfuscate a little bit more, you *can* use '|' as OR in a

Filter logic

2001-01-30 Thread Tony Owens

Can someone explain the logic used when using multiple 'AN'D and
'OR' filter strings? As far as I can tell, the alternative
filter(s) does not seem to be associated with any particular
'AND' filter.I think Marck Pearlstone touched on this in a
previous post, but I didn't really understand it.

For instance, if I define two AND filters (say, A AND B), and a
single 'OR' (alternative) filter, C, how is the whole filter
interpreted:

(A AND B) OR C?
(A OR C) AND (B OR C)?

  or some other way?
