What do I do next?

You don't. You set up a hotmail interface that receives your mail
through (say) web2pop or a utility. It *sends* mail through either
your ISP or you own mail server. You don't have to send mail from
hotmail at all. Mail is mail. The from / reply address can be
whatever you please. The route by which it is sent is completely
irrelevant.

GC I created a new account using my main ISP settings to deal with
GC the Hotmail. In the From information and Reply to information I
GC put in my Hotmail account email address. When I log onto the

That's because it's supposed use the Hotmail settings for receive
(using one of the previously discussed utilities to route incoming
Hotmail messages) and your ISP settings for send only.

I briefly tried Web2Pop and had virtually no problems.

I say virtually, because I did have one problem.

One correspondent had, as a signature

name
.cr

Notice the . (period) cr (carriage return) on the 2nd line. This was
causing Web2Pop to falsely assume that the end of the email had been
reached after name

A nice little quirk that took me more time to solve than it was worth :)

I don't know the RFC - or the HotMail protocol, so I can't comment on
who was at fault, Web2Pop, the other guys email client, or what...

Re: Hotmail and the Bat?

2001-11-25 Thread Angel

Hi there ,

 I can't see one, but is there a way as in Outlook Express to
 download mail from a Hotmail account into The Bat?

P If Hotmail gives you a POP server that you can log onto, then you can.
Hotmail does not offer POP3 email checking from your favorite email
program such as TB!. In essence, if you do not utilize a 3rd party
program such as Web2Pop to access Hotmail's web-based email via POP3
from your email program, you must access your email via the Web.
Hotmail does, however, have the option for you to POP3 check your OTHER
email accounts, if you wish it to do so. But: you must still access
the mail via the Web.

P I have Yahoo accounts with which I both receive and send email with
P TB, but Yahoo is more open about such things than MSFT.
Yahoo is one of a few good email services which DOES allow for POP3
checking with your favorite email program. In TB! Archives, there are
several email threads discussing this in which quite a few web-based
email programs offer POP3 accessibility.

Ciao for now,
~~~Angel
Probably a daft question, but what the heck I'll ask anyway. :)
If not any plans to add it. I hate having to use Outlook express about as
much as Hotmail, but sadly it's needed in addition to my normal accounts for
work purposes.
I think not. You can use some utilities tp work with Hotmail account:
Web2Pop
Shareware
POP3HOT 1.3a
Freeware
As far as downloading Hotmail email with TB!, yes, you can using
Web2Pop. Setup is easy and it works great. I have been using it for a
while now.  http://www.jmasoftware.com
To clarify, OE doesn't download Hotmail...it synchronizes with
what is on the Hotmail servers. With Web2Pop, it actually DOWNLOADS it
and, TB! can be set up to delete messages on the server thereby
eliminating Hotmail contacting you with the annoying: Your account size
is too large. OE just coordinates with what is on the server so it is not
actually downloading it. Another reason I couldn't stand using it
just to read Hotmail. lol
Just be forewarned that any HTML emails received at your Hotmail account
and downloaded using TB!/W2P will not show HTML graphic unless they are
sent WITH the email.. or something like that. (ie: HTML format email
will not show graphics). Maybe someone else here can clarify; it's been
so long since I have attempted to explain that ;)
Anyways, good luck with W2P. It is tops as far as I am concerned,
making web-based email POP3 retrievable with your favourite email
clientin my case, TB!. :)
Ciao for now,
~~~Angel

I think this depends on MSFT rather than anything RIT Labs might do.

Have you looked at GMX to provide webmail? IMHO far superior to Hotmail
and you can access it securely using TB! www.gmx.com then choose your
