Yes, gmail works very nicely with The Bat via SMTP, POP and IMAP. That's
not what I was asking though.
What about option: Address Book/File/Import made you think that?
When I try to import contacts from gmail to The Bat, I get the error
that you correctly interpreted below.

Just set it up once to activate the POP server. Then you should never need to start a web browser again (until you create another gmail address). BUT there is still the problem of IP address. It is a real pain with VPNs (I use whichever one gets a connection that doesn't drop and it's not always the same one) or even IP addresses in different countries without a VPN at all.
