I guess that's cool, and an email client SHOULD be optimized for fixed
width fonts. But! For those of us who fall under "most of the time"
rather than "always", it punishes us for using fixed as the default,
since it requires such convoluted steps to simply view the current
message in the alternate font. It's almost faster just to paste it
into an external editor.

Yep. Scratch that part. And try 5 times.

But, then, at this point, keyboard doesn't work.

You should probably send a bug report that the keyboard doesn't work
from Preferences/Viewer.

I never use ANYTHING else! TB! does this with no effort on my part

Yes, I accidentally tested that from the Beta. I also didn't see a
way to get there in the Gild.

Though your message header says that you're using v1.62r, your keyboard
navigation path is the one for the new options panel seen only in the
betas. I know about it. But zParticle is using the latest release
version and your method doesn't work there.

For version 1.62r, I'm stuck after doing:

Alt-O-
Right arrow 5 times

Alt-V should be able to get me to the 'View message using' option since
the 'V' is underlined. However, this doesn't work. Neither does tabbing
get me there. The only way to do it is with the mouse.

Does this refer to the beta? On my copy of 1.62r, this does:

>Alt-O
preferences menu
>Hit the key 9 times
[nothing]
>Hit the key 5 times
viewer preferences
>Press P or R
[nothing]

save preferences

It sounds like I didn't overlook something obvious, anyway, The Bat!
just doesn't appear to cater to those of us who prefer to use fixed
width fonts most of the time. Hopefully a future release will at
least work with a keyboard macro.

Try the following:

Alt-O
Hit the key 9 times
Hit the key 5 times
Press P or R

BTW, I agree that there should be a simple way to do this in TB without
needing to write a PowerPro macro.

I actually meant there that you cannot navigate to the option using the

Have you tried creating a shortcut via the Edit Shortcuts dialog?

Hmmm. Upon fiddling with v1.62r, I see what you mean. You can navigate
to that option using the keyboard and the current beta's, but that's no
solution for you.

With a good macro tool like PowerPro, you could create a macro based on
mouse movements since the Preferences window is always opens in the same
position on the screen.

All this of course, doesn't take away my strong agreement with your view
that a change of viewer so that you can read with variable vs fixed
width fonts should be made an easily accessible option, preferably a
toggle switch.

Quickly toggling fix-width fonts

2003-08-02 Thread zParticle
Within the message auto-view pane, I frequently need to switch between
fixed-width and proportional fonts. It's a bit of a pain though, as I
have to go to Preferences | Viewer and toggle the state of the first
combo box--at least 6 clicks and no way to get there via keyboard.

I expected to find a right-click option in the message pane or at
least a hotkey, but I can't figure out any simple way to do this. Even
a third-party macro program fails because that particular control
doesn't appear to be keyboard-accessible. Am I just missing something here?

Thanks.
