Re: BayesIt web english web page
Hi Steve Does anybody know if there a comprehensive BayesIt web page in English, such as the Russian http://www.ritlabs.com/ru/solutions/BayesIt.php. I'd like to know if there is one, too. I'm frustrated enough with BayesIt's inability to recognize junk mail, that I'm ready to switch back to K-9, which averages a 97-99% junk recognition success rate for me one I got it trained. I'm amazed at the varying experiences everyone has. So far with TB v3 I started with v.0.6.0, trained it and all was well; no white or black lists. I just stuck v0.6.8 into the mix and it seems OK. There were many problems for me using the betas between 0.6.0 and 0.6.8. Which are you using? -- Neal Laugman Using The Bat! v3.0.0.18 and BayesIt! 0.6.8 on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4 Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Dear Neal, @25-Sep-2004, 09:55 -0800 (25-Sep 18:55 UK time) Neal Laugman [NL] in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] said to Steve: I'm frustrated enough with BayesIt's inability to recognize junk mail, ... snip NL I'm amazed at the varying experiences everyone has. So far with TB NL v3 I started with v.0.6.0, trained it and all was well; no white NL or black lists. I just stuck v0.6.8 into the mix and it seems OK. Well, I have had consistent crashes using BayesIt and still get a Exception trap in training_the_base error on occasion. Which ends up with BayesIt no longer operational and TB hanging on exit. These crashes are far less frequent with the 0.6.8 release, for sure and previous releases were so error prone that I found them completely unusable. As such, I switched to Achim Winklers BayesFilter. That worked well *except* ... it has an auto-whitelist function. Which insisted on white-listing my own email address. Since much of the spam comes /to/ that address ... well, you can guess the outcome. All spam instantly whitelisted :-(. So I have switched back to BayesIt, seeing the positive feedback on this new release. I find that BayesIt is not trapping any spam at all on my second main email account. Okay, well not much. I guess this may be a matter of further training, but I do get many spam duplicates between the two accounts. A message spotted as spam on my primary is not spotted on the secondary. It's all rather confusing. -- Cheers -- //.arck D Pearlstone -- List moderator and fellow end user TB! v3.0.0.18 on Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 ' pgpu8Gq8aJsfQ.pgp Description: PGP signature Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Neal, I'm, using 06.6, which I thought was the latest version. BayesIt hasn't worked well for me since the version that came with The Bat 2.12; I don't remember its version number. Do you have the URL for 0.6.8? The web site for BayesIt http://klirik.narod.ru/usefuls/bayesiteng.htm lists 0.4 as the latest version. I've been getting the URLs for the later versions from this forum. Thanks! Steve . . . Dear P, @25-Sep-2004, 19:37 -0500 (26-Sep 01:37 UK time) P.Johnson [PJ] in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] said to Marck: MDP ... I switched to Achim Winklers BayesFilter. That worked well MDP *except* ... it has an auto-whitelist function. PJ Can you tell me a little more about the auto-whitelist? I've PJ installed Bayes Filter with no problems and it seems to be working PJ well. So far the only addresses in the whitelist file are those I PJ added manually. Yes - it's a switch that's supposed to automatically add to the whitelist any addresses from mails marked as NON junk. Which is sensible. MDP Which insisted on white-listing my own email address. Since much MDP of the spam comes /to/ that address ... well, you can guess the MDP outcome. All spam instantly whitelisted :-(. PJ And there is no way you the whitelist can be controlled? Yes, I suppose I could have turned off the switch, but was that the point? I'd have thought that I'd want the source of non-junk mail to be white-listed. But why should all mail addressed to me suddenly act like it's white-listed? MDP So I have switched back to BayesIt, seeing the positive feedback MDP on this new release. PJ I've heard of nothing but problems with BayseIt, much as I would PJ like it to work. Agreed. And while it's working after a fashion ... MDP I find that BayesIt is not trapping any spam at all on my second main MDP email account ... this is still the case. MDP It's all rather confusing. I, too, just installed The Bat! plug-in Achim Winklers BayesFilter. From my first test, it seems to be quite a cut above BayesIt. (For those who want to try it, you can get it from http://www.lkcc.org/achim/download/bayesfilter1.5.4.exe.) I'll probably move my white and black lists from K9, but it seems to work well (so far) without those lists. I actually have only a dozen or so in my black white lists, so they shouldn't change much.
