I note from your signature that you are currently test out version 5 of The
Bat. Are you able to
give some indication of when that will be released please.

D version 5 of The Bat. Are you able to

The usual pattern is for RITlabs to release an Xmas edition just
before the 25th. This year may be different since V5 is based on a
completely rewritten code-set, with the particular aim of much
better IMAP support. The result is a Bat with a lot of new bugs,
which RITlabs will work very hard to clear up before the 25th, but
some of these have persisted from the Alpha version.

So usually, I would say it categorically - by the 25th. This year,
I'm not so certain. Sorry to be so vague, but there have been
several times in the long Bat history (I've been a user for 12+
years) that RITlabs have forced a version out because of a deadline
date and not becuase software testing was complete and bugs were
cleared. This has caused a lot of discontent and, these days, they
are more keen on making a release when a decent level of stability
has been acheived.

Thanks Marck for the update. Having been involved in beta testing I know of the
pressures on both
sides - one to get it right and the other to develop the income stream.

I think I will bide my time till 5 is out before parting with my cash.

D So far I have created a QT with just my signature but cannot work
D out how to relate it to the message template.

Add this: %qinclude('QTSigHandle')
to your message template where QTSigHandle is the handle you gave to
your quick template signature.

Quick templates can also be invoked while editing by typing the
handle followed by Ctrl+Space. Using the %issignature tag in a Quick
Template makes the QT invocation replace any current signature with
the newly invoked one while the cursor remains in place for
continued editing.

One word though, and here the moderator hat gets put on... you're
not using a cut mark to delineate your signature and without that,
the %issignature macro doesn't work.

A cut mark looks like this: dashdashspacereturn
You'll see one of these above everybody's (well, most) signatures on
this list. Mostly because it works and partly because it's list
rules ;-).

Thanks for that. I could not find %qinclude anywhere in the drop down lists.

Right now the weak spots in the Bat are HTML and IMAP and the IMAP is
getting fixed right now.

I used Poco. The interface is slicker, but I kept running into
walls. The Bat has more power than you will probably ever need.
Someone could hold a 2 hour lecture on using templates and macros and
still not cover it all.

The help file is not up to date and the best way after checking it, is
to ask a question here on this list.

Without starting a religious war I find TheBat! technically better than Barca
(which uses the Poco email client).
When I was using Barca I had some dreadful problems with attachments. It
transpired that my anti-virus was adding a tag to the file and Barca was then
unable to decode the attachments. Since Barca doesn't show the source of
messages properly it was a pig to track down.
It causes no problems at all in TheBat! so I came to the conclusion TheBat! is
more robust.
