Re[2]: TB! & Hotmail & Yahoo mail

Hi Jurgen:

JH> I get the error 'pop authenticate before sending mails'.

Hmm...never saw that...are you running something else on those ports?

I am running Hotmail Popper and YahooPop. However, Hotmail Popper seemed to suffer
when I had both utilities
running on the same ports.

I had to switch the ports (pop3 and SMTP) on Hotmail Popper from 110 and 25 to 8110
and 825.

I am not sure if running something like SpamPal or other service on
the same ports would create a conflict. Perhaps changing the ports
might help.

I can't think of any other issues.

JH> how do you send mails with YahooPops? I can't.

1) Double-click the YahooPops tray icon to open the the configuration window.

2) Click on "Advanced Settings"

3) Select "Network" submenu

4) Bind on I.P. Address = 127.0.0.1
   Pop port = 110
   Enable SMTP = checked
   SMTP port = 25

You can even use secure login:

1) Do steps 1 and 2 above
2) Select "Security" submenu
3) "Connect in secure (HTTPS) mode" = checked

Checking mail takes a while however.

Just in case: I am using Version 0.5 June 19th, 2003.

I tried YahooPops and Hotmail Popper based on recommendations here and
I am very pleased. Not only are they free, and pretty stable, but I
can also send mail through these clients. Web2pop, on the other
hand, must be registered and does not provide SMTP service.

Now I can use my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts to respond to other
newsletters and less reputable mailing lists without exposing my "preferred e-mail
addresses.

Thanks to everyone for the tips!

Probably a bit slower due to the extra level of indirection that web2pop
presents. The people on the web2pop forums (I think there were some forums on
the site) would be able to answer that better though.
