1. ME does still boot through DOS but you can't access it like under
9x (Boot back to MS-DOS prompt).

2. For most files you can use the ME DOS box or even the Explorer
(just takes longer).

3. With a bootable floppy you can use any DOS you want.

4. With Win95 the old File Manager from 3.1 days was included. If this
is still in ME, you can use that, too.

The file manager *is* a DOS box; that saved me some trouble in the
past since I could delete files with it that could not be deleted
under Win95 itself.

And then, a DOS prompt from within Windows (9x/ME, NT, 2K) should be
no problem at all.

CDROM's are supposed to be read only. Therefore the read only bit get set.
the best way (if you remember) to fix it after you have copied the files is
to go into DOS, change directory to the top level for The Bat! and use the
command [arrtib -r *.* /s] this will sort it out for all your files.

I seam to remember that there was a fix for this in one of the beta's.

Well, I don't know what caused it in my case, but it wasn't restoring
from a CD because I've never done that. The only clue I have is that,
looking at the logs, it appears I received a new version announcement
on October 24, 2000. It's therefore quite likely that I installed a
new version that day. In any event, the logs for all accounts showed
activity for October 23 and 24, 2000 - nothing before or after.
