Hello tbudl,

Maybe some of you are aware I've been experiencing
*freezes* on my XP system while running The Bat! along
side Zone Alarm Pro. Though it rarely happened, maybe
once or twice a night it was, for me, too much.

The Kerio firewall seemed to be well took by The Bat!
community so I've decided to try it.

I had problems with Kerio 2s Internet connection sharing
and plus it looked dull but the Kerio 3 beta 5 works
smooth, great and plus it looks awesome!

I really love how it plays firewall with my applications,
asking permission if one app can use or install another.
  That is very cool.

There is just one tiny irritant about it. Unlike ZAP it
seems to ask for permission for every thread a program can
  spit out.

I would like to say yes to the parent program and all the
child threads are permissioned for the session. Is that
  possible?

I ask because 3 of my programs I would have to say yes
to dialog boxes close to over 30 times. That is the only
real annoying feature but everything else is excellent.

I'll get to it in the morning as I am really tired right
now but if anybody has a tip to share or something that
can help, I'd be entirely thankful.

Thanks, goodnight, sweet dreams, be good :)

ZAPro does that too.

Usually that happens when the application communicates over multiple
ports or with multiple remote IPs. If you know before hand the range
of ports and addresses you need to give permission then you only
need to create one rule. Kerio is more precisely configurable in
this regard.

yes, you check the little box in the lower left before you check accept
or deny, then it creates a template and you never have to say yes(or no)
to that process again.

Hello Paul,

Regarding the Kerio Firewall

VBG I would like to say yes to the parent program and all the
VBG child threads are permissioned for the session. Is that
VBG possible?

PC yes, you check the little box in the lower left before you check accept
PC or deny, then it creates a template and you never have to say yes(or no)
PC to that process again.

Thanks Paul. With Kerio 3 beta 5 I've got it to work asking
only once for the parent program to get out and if I say yes
all the children will not be confirmed.

I did not wish to give explicit permission for 24/7 access
to any particular program except for what Windows XP
considers vital.

Thanks for your input Paul, Its people like yourself that
make tbudl an amazing udl :)

Redundant or repetitive?

2002-12-13 Thread Al Jacobus
Hello tbudl,

I have been following the threads on the *freezing* problems
associated with ZAP. I have experienced this as well and have found
that it is always associated with the same file that is being
downloaded from the mail server. It stalls on the same one every time.
When I disable ZAP, the file downloads just fine. When I look at the
file I cannot find anything unusual about it. ZAP must be detecting
something in the file and instead of popping up a message or
quarantining the file it somehow stalls TB while it is retrieving the
file from the server.

I looked at Kerio, and it does not have a feature which checks the
content or extensions on email. Or if it does it is not included on
the list of features on their website. If my suspicion is correct,
that it is the email monitoring function of ZAP that is the culprit,
this also explains why Kerio works so well with TB. I have turned off
the email checking feature of ZAP and will see if the problem
returns.
