Re: Smart Bat column alignment
Hello Richard, M I can even see a 'Paste formatted' option, which I don't know what it M does but the name seems to suggest something Unfortunately it doesn't paste formatted from Word but it was so easy to align all my lists with the Tab button that it only took a few minutes. Glad you have it solved. Anyway, AFAIR, no text editor gets the formatting when you copy from Word and paste. But I may be wrong. -- Best regards, Please support the wish for a 'Draft' folder at: https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5441 Miguel A. Hello Richard, M no text editor gets the formatting when you copy from Word and paste That's another useful snippet of information learnt thanks. Although why Word can't make formatting exportable I don't know. Maybe it's time to give OpenOffice a go. It is not a Word problem, you would have the same problem if you go to OpenOffice. It is a problem between _word_ processors and _text_ processors. When you copy something from a _word_ processor, that includes all the extra information that you don't see (i.e. formatting, paragraph hierarchy, fonts and sizes, colours, possible indexing info, etc.,etc.) and the word processor doesn't know (it can't) where you are going to paste that. You may want to paste it just a couple of pages away, or in another word document, or Follow me? When you paste something in a _text_ processor, how can it know where it comes from to understand its formatting, etc.? Does a text processor have to understand the special coding (formatting) done by MS Word, OpenOffice, etc.? So, all it pastes are ASCII text characters with the basic formatting that can be done with ASCII characters like space and end of line and it strips all other control and formatting characters (actually combinations) it cannot understand. That's how it more or less works :) -- Best regards, Please support the wish for a 'Draft' folder at: https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5441 Miguel A. Hello Richard, Another little thing learnt. I thought that Tabs were carried over in the copying. They may, but not always. Some times formatting done apparently with tabs is done by other means, for example paragraph indentation may be done by setting different margins for different paragraphs. -- Best regards, Please support the wish for a 'Draft' folder at: https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5441 Miguel A. Smart Bat column alignment
Hello, How do you get columns to align in smart bat? I have one page which is meant to have columns in it. However Smat Bat behaves like MicroEd in that, if you don't have line spaces, all lines become one the moment you start to edit. do all my editing by copying to Word, making adjustments to the columns, and pasting back in. It doesn't matter if I use tabs or the space bar or convert it to columns in Word. It still shows as a misaligned mess when pasting back into Smart Bat. I can't write it directly into Smart Bat as I don't want a line space between each line of information. That would necessitate far too much scrolling up and down. It would be good to have the same choices as in MicroEd and to be able to turn off the autoformat and autowrap facilities. -- Regards, Richard | The Bat! 3.63.08 (Beta) with SpamPal POP3 account and no Plug-ins | Windows XP (build 2600), version 5. 1 Service Pack 2 | F-Prot AV, Outpost Firewall Pro 3.0, Spysweeper, Adaware, SpyBot Holiday in France: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/lazyhomes/holiday.html Current version is 3.62.14 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
