Some PGP questions
Hi fellow Bat users, I have finally tried using PGP in TB! v1.51, after meeting much difficulties with the previous TB! versions. Currently, I am using PGP v6.5.8 in Win2K environment. Since I am a relative newbie in this area, I have a few questions 1. How can I put my public key inside a mail message? Is there a macro for this? 2. When I read email messages that have been signed, is it normal for me to see this (for example) when I "check the PGP signature": Name: The Bat! Signer: (Unknown, KeyID=0x098AEC13) Validity: Signed: 3/27/2001 11:00:39 AM (Unknown Key) What do I have to do to see the correct thing? Thank you very much. -- Cheers, Viboon http://viboon.net/ -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Have a look at the archive, where this problem was discussed less than a week ago. The thread starts with the message http://www.mail-archive.com/tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com/msg22998.html 2. That *is* the correct thing if you don't have the signer's key in your keyring. The Bat tells you only the facts. It hasn't got a key, so it can't say anything about its validity and 'Signed' just tells you that the signature fits the message, otherwise it would simply read 'Bad signature'. To cut a long story short, change your PGP settings on the 'Server' tab to synchronize keys on verification. This will automatically get the public keys of the signer from a key server. -- Regards, Lars The Bat! 1.52 Beta/1 on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 |Lars Geiger | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]| | PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=GetPublicKey | -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello Viboon! On Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at 5:20:37 AM you wrote: 1. How can I put my public key inside a mail message? Is there a macro for this? Create a text file with your public key, then put it in your message either with %PUT or %ATTACHFILE (syntax is in the help). Another way would be to copy the text output of your public key (see above) into the signature in your templates. Come to think of it this answers a question currently discussed somewhere else (TBTECH?!). You need the public key of the signer on your key ring. In my case, just double click on the link below and - provided everything still works as it should - within 12 hours you will have mine. Import it into your key ring and see what happens when you now verify my sig. - -- Dierk Haasis PGP keys available: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=SendMyPGPkeys The Bat 1.52 Beta/1 Windows 95 4.0 1212 C The great tragedy of science: The slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact.
