I did the same - after figuring out how to enter the path to the
FAT32 drive in TB! under Xandros... (it uses Z:\\ to indicate the
Xandros root), and sharing the mail folder between Windows and
Xandros like this works fine for me.

Mine, too. I've not tested the Windows version as it looks like it is
still heavily under development. What I need is a client that will
work under both Windows and Linux. Too many clients still use Windows
products, so I am often working under Windows and then switching to
Linux. Rebooting every time I want to send/read mail is an
option, but not a very attractive one. :)

I suspect if further discussion is wanted on this it'd better go
to TBOT - where there's been some interesting discussions about
running TB! under Linux of late.

Sorry, but I'm not on TBOT :( - too many lists already.

Re: TB WINE ..

Hi John,

I understand it's possible to run TB using the WINE
code on Linux systems. What is the general verdict on
 how well this works?

I have run TB! under Fedora Core 1 using Crossover Office. I've seen
it mentioned that TB! has run under WINE as well.

There are compatibility problems with Prelinking and Exec Shield in
both WINE and Crossover Office that require certain default system
options be changed. Once I changed the options, I was able to operate
TB! with only minor annoyances - connection center displays a blank
screen, but it works and I cannot minimize TB! to the tray. If I do,
it goes away and I can't retrieve it. I haven't spent much time
playing with TB! as my FC1 install has very much been a play with it
until I break it kind of thing. I was waiting for FC2 with the 2.6
kernel to come out so I could do a clean install of everything and
then test TB! out again. If I remember correctly, certain functions
such as SmartBat didn't work as well. Like I said, though, I've broken
a lot of things and that may be why. My goal is to get a working copy
of TB! with a shared e-mail directory on all three systems (triple
boot - W2k, WinXP and FC1). I've already accomplished that with
Thunderbird. But Thunderbird isn't TB!

It's a shame that it doesn't seem like there's any interest at Ritlabs

It certainly runs under Win4Lin as my other half tried that with
Xandros before he installed CrossOver Office.

Connection Centre under this version ( v2.04 RC/3 ) will not
always hide itself, then after using the program for a while it
works normally - go figure! ;-)

Under Xandros it minimizes fine to taskbar and shows in systray -
despite the option to not show on taskbar and only in systray
being ticked!

Seems to work OK under Xandros - though I admit to not using this
very much anyhow.

This should work well if the mail directory is held on one
of the Windows partitions but I don't know if it will under
Fedora on a Linux partition - does Fedora have the option to let
Windows see shares like Xandros does?

Thunderbird isn't bad per se - it's a good replacement for those
who are used to OE and want something simple. It lacks a
Dispatcher - which I did suggest a year ago, and the suggestion
was poo-pooed by the Thunderbird forum - they really couldn't see
the need/use for one! sigh

I think I've set the follow up to this to TBOT - if I've mushed
it, sorry mods! ;-)

I've not tried it on WINE as such, but I can say that it runs
fine under CrossOver Office on Xandros 2.0 (CO is a WINE-based
utility). In fact that's what I'm using to send this message :-)

There were some threads about this in the past, and many people had
problems using TB under wine. Check the archives, I think someone got
it running.

In the archives there should also be the mentioning of another Windows
emulator ... I know, wine stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator, but
hey - anyway, someone got TB running using something else than wine.

TB! - wine

2001-07-15 Thread Peter Palmreuther

Hello List,

does anyone have experiences using TB! (I'm currently using 1.53d) with
  wine?
I finally got Mandrake installed on my Notebook (it was a long way 'til that
because the ATI Rage Mobility was long time unsopported by XFree :-( ) and
want to use TB! further on :-)
Nevertheless WinME stays installed, but I assume I'l do more work within
Linux and don't want to omit my wonderful TB! :-)

The problem is TB! starts (I've done it importing the whole necessary
registry, so all setting seems to be securely converted), but it hangs
when the folder-tree and the message lists should become painted to the
  screen.

The error message printed does not give me a hint what's happening and I
think I've reached the point where I _do_ need help.

If someone can give me a hint how to troubleshoot this _please_ answer :-)))
Of course I've captured the error messages, if someone thinks you can read
it I'll send it, but I dont want to bore the rest here with that cryptical
  linux stuff :-)))

  TIA Pit
