On Monday, September 16, 2002, Harriekins wrote in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]: H I appreciate the reply, and after some time, I have gone to the H address book, right clicked on certain entries there and gone to H properties, and ended up using the blank one you advised for new H message and blank/text for reply. That does just what I want. Changing the templates in the address book for specific entries (or groups) as you have done will work for those entries or groups. However, it seemed to me from your initial message that you want *all* replies to be blank, even if they are to new correspondents or other recipients who are not in your address book (which you will see abbreviated on this list as AB). If that's your objective, then go up to the menu bar, click Account/Properties/Templates. Expand the Templates category, and adjust as desired. Those are your global templates, which will apply to that account unless overridden by more specific group or individual templates. One way to address those global templates is to leave just the %CURSOR expression in place, or to leave that plus some short line, if you like, identifying the person to whom you're replying or to the date on which his/her email came in. As for asking elementary questions, don't be inhibited about that. Some simple things in TB! are hard to find. And some very interesting possibilities are almost impossible to figure out without a guide. All in all, it's worth the effort, and such questions are the reason this list is here. -- JN Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Thanks, JN, I find as I become more familiar with the Bat, I am changing my mind as to what I want and don't want! This reply and Jan's earlier advice was helpful to meI will experiment with the %CURSOR expression today. One thing I would like to set up, with two close friends I email a lot, is to have a template where my reply begins above the heading of the mail I am responding to, in other words, like in Outlook Express where it automatically shows the below fields and your typing begins *above* that. Can anyone help? Perhaps even the cursor expression does this, I will find out! Can anyone help? Perhaps even the H cursor expression does this, I will find out! I don't know Outlook express, but I believe you want to do something that most people frown upon: Dear Blabla; (your message) Greeting. - Original Message - From: To: Subject: (total original message) It is possible. I go step=-by-step, so it is easy to follow: Without the header information, you can just use the following template: %Cursor %Text But that is not so good, as the original text will not be marked as quoted (BIG disadvantage of Outlook). Better is this: %Cursor %Quotes Now, you can put the full header info in there: %Cursor From:%OFrom To: %OTo Subject: %OSubject %Quotes But there is really no need to follow Outlook's conventions any more. You are now dealing with a powerful email-client that can do better - much better. Use your creativity and don't get stuck in old ways, because the old MUA couldn't do anything else. Try yourself out and find that life is much more than the narrow path of Outlook. Dare do something different, something new, something creative! :-) And find out why it is even more practical too, to not just top-reply and bottom-quote, but to use inline-quoting. You will see that people on this list use mostly inline-quoting, because this way, threads are easier to follow. Welcome to the world of fully-functional email. -- Cheers, Thomas. Another Address Book over Folder Templates question
Hi, This is a mailing list related template again. I am a member of a mailing list that requires both the list, and the original sender to be included on the mail (either TO the sender, or CC the sender). The list doesn't set the Reply-To tag. I setup an address book template for the mailing list for the reply to include the original sender. When I reply to the email sent to the list, it ignores the fact it came from that list, and uses the standard account formating. Without adding everybody that emails that list to my address book, is this one of those rare cases where folder templates are needed over address book templates? -- Jonathan Angliss ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Current Ver: 1.60m FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Bug Reports: https://bt.ritlabs.com
